Help with test results please.
Active B12 is well above normal. Folate is OK but could be higher - try eating more green, leafy veg, seeds and pulses. Vit D is low - go to a pharmacist and ask them to suggest a supplement.
Thank you for your input - in February when i had my B12 tested by the same people it was 126 range pmol/L 140 - 724.00 so it has not gone up by much but the reference range has changed - i did have six loading doses in March and it went to 1,262 and it has come down to this in six months. I have a thyroid nodule that stops me eating so i have to liquidise everything and make soup - i do try to have healthy food - but i do not have red meat/milk/oil/fish or fat apart from a little bit of butter in scrambled eggs as they are easy to to get down my throat. I wish you well.
the previous test was serum B12 (going by range) not active B12.
Active B12 accounts for about 20% of the B12 in your blood so on that basis your B12 levels have increased significantly.
If these are levels after you are on shots then they don't really mean that much as the injections throw something in to the mix which means that the normal range can't be applied in the same way - at this point it becomes symptoms rather than test scores that really count. Given your comments on diet an absorption problem seems more or less inevitable so you should be on regular maintenance doses - regime will depend on where you are - could be monthly or (if you are in UK) might be 2-3 months depending on whether you have neurological symptoms or not.
If you have thyroid problems then that can make getting a clear picture from symptoms really difficult because of the overlap with thyroid symptoms
