The report should give:
A number representing your result.
The units used.
The 'normal range'.
Something like 85 pmol/L (120 - 600).
If your number is inside the normal range then a doctor will say your result is normal and no treatment is required.
each test has its limitations, because of the fact that it is based on averages and people aren't averages, So, it is possible that some people will be okay outside the normal range and that some won't be okay whilst they are in the normal range - but this will depend on how the 'normal population' is distributed and isn't something that is going to be detailed in the actual test results as presented. To know what the variation is likely to be like it would be necessary to know exactly what the test is and then to look at any information there is about the normal/reference range.
