Can I take ibuprofen if I have gastritis caused by PA?

I am having a painful reoccurrence of sciatica and wonderedf if it is ok to take ibuprofen short term. I know it can cause gastritis but my gastritis is related to Pernicious Aneamia. If I can't take it orally, would ibuprofen gel be ok? Any advice much appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi Agapanthus1, not sure you should take oral anti inflammatory meds not likely to be good for you. I took quite a lot before back surgery and because I had investigations for PA ie : cameras both ends they found some small ulcers in the colon due to ibuprofen. So I just use voltorol gel when required.

Have you spoken to your GP about pain relief and did they make any suggestions.

If you have and they haven't come up with anything useful then try speaking to a pharmacist - they may have some ideas about appropriate pain relief in your situation.

Might also be worth looking into a chiropractor or a physiotherapist as the right exercises and alignment of muscles and bones may help in clearing the pinched nerve.

My GP is useless - I am seeing a gastro specialist but not until Aug. That's a great idea about the pharmacist though, I didn't think of that!

I have seen a physio in the past and had acupuncture and that was very helpful. We can self refer in my area so I will do that if it persists.

Thanks so much for your very helpful reply. πŸ˜ŠπŸ’
