Hi
I was going through my old paper work and came across my blood test from 2002 when I was diagnosed with PA. Can someone advise me how the the GP diagnosed PA from these results

Indicators of B12 deficiency are as follows
B12 is below normal range
MCV, MCH are both quite high in range
your folate is also below range indicating that there is probably an absorption problem behind your B12 deficiency.
The results do not include anything specific to PA as the cause of your B12 deficiency but GPs can be a bit lose in the way they use PA and it often gets applied to an unidentified absorption problem - as it is the most likely absorption problem ... and the specific tests aren't really that reliable.
Thanks for your speedy reply. I just thought it strange to have a diagnoses of PA from these results when other members my daughter included struggle to get any diagnoses for their b12 deficiency what so ever. Anyhow I was at GP last week with horrendous gastric problems and she diagnosed irritable bowel????? I had to point out that I had a PA diagnoses so she did MORE bloods. Not much has changed with my results over the years even with SI weekly .
