Does anyone with b12 deficiency symptoms ever experience an involuntary spasm in their diaphragm?
I'm getting it occasionally and it's annoying.
It's not quite a hiccup just a jolt.

Hi Streap. It's not something I get 😄.
It can be caused by irritation of the vagus/splenic nerves (B12 connection) that serve the diaphragm...overeating, drinking alcohol, and a number of other underlying health conditions (hiatus hernia, oesophageal reflux etc.). Sometimes with hiccups. Sometimes not.
Here's a link if you want to read more about it:

Hope it settles soon 👍
Omg yes. I've never mentioned it before as I though it was my own weird body doing its normal weird things. Mine started just after my daughter was born (she now 18) the midwife said to expect a few post birth contractions and I though it was that. it was like a little baby kick just below my breast bone. They've carried on for years but only every now and then. NNever figured out what causes it but nice to know I'm not the only one.
I have hiatus hernia so this happens to me but as far as I know not b12 related
I get esophageal spasms sometimes which sound as if they are somewhat different than what you get. The spasms cause a lot of pain- others in this forum have them, too.
I'd rather have what you have!
But maybe with more b12, this situation will resolve. Best wishes!🙄
OMG YESSS!! I've been suffering for years with this almost involuntary situp, but I realized it was my diaphragm pushing air out involuntarily or tightening. At times pushing my whole torso down all originating from my diaphragm. I also have full on dystonic attacks with my face pulling and my eyes shutting by themselves along with the diaphragm spasms. I just realized this after 6 years of this thing ruining my life that it was b12 malabsorption.
