Hi I am new here, just wondering what to ask GP at appointment tomorrow regarding folate/B12 results?

FOLATE - 3.2 (4.6 - 18.7)

VITAMIN B12 - 201 (190 - 900)

Thank you

the folate is definitely below range

B12 is likely to be causing you problems as well but GP may not pick this up at a problem.

Put together a list of your symptoms in relation to B12

and draw your GPs attention to this UKNEQAS alert on just interpreting serum B12 by results alone - status needs an evaluation of symptoms and blood results. Macrocytosis may be a common feature of a B12 deficiency (deformed - larger and rounder - red blood cells) but isn't a defining characteristic and about 30% present with neurological symptoms first.

Ideally you should be started on B12 treatment 24-48 hours before being treated for the folate deficiency as there is a very small chance of permanent nerve damage (spinal chord).
