You really need to see another doctor who does know about B12 - your results at that level - unless you are a vegan or someone who eats basically no meat, fish, eggs or dairy your results are indicative of an absorption problem. Although oral B12 can sometimes be effective you need to be taking at least 10 times the amount you have been prescribed - and the recommendation would be 1000-10000mcg a day.
Good that he has prescribed vit D and dealt with the thyroid.
You could try taking the prescribed B12 for 8 weeks and retake the test - but if it has put your results just back in range the likelihood is he will say that you don't have an absorption problem even though you are still likely to be deficient
However absorption problem is likely to mean that the levels you have been prescribed are unlikely to have any effect so it will probably be okay - except that he is delaying vital treatment for 8 weeks - just makes you want to scream - probably 9 weeks before the results come back.
You really need to learn as much as you can about B12 as quickly as you can

At the very least you need to fight back on the assumption that your B12 deficiency is dietary - ask GP why he thinks it is dietary and then if he can't come up with anything concrete ask him why he's treating your deficiency as if it was dietary.
