Thanks sleepybunny, it's always good to be reminded. The new website certainly looks clearer and more user friendly. As someone who is currently surviving on benefits, I was glad I had joined before the membership fee increased!
I thought about joining but being retired these price increases make it rather costly now. Should have done it before but unfortunately it won't happen now.
You could join for £20 for a year, which you can renew for another £20 each year, although it probably works out cheaper to join for £20 for the 1st year then £10 a year on a silver membership. So you don't have to pay £100 for the lifetime Gold membership. I suppose it depends if you think it is worth it and what you may get out of it. To be honest I've had more help from the forum than the official website. I've had contact with Martyn Hooper but I can't say he was helpful. Although he has helped others.
I'm a bit concerned that the price increase may prevent some people from joining.
Perhaps in the future they might introduce a cheaper membership for those on benefits.
Yes, the problem is that it's hard to make much money when you're ill. If you weren't all that ill you probably wouldn't need to become a member.
I don't understand really why it was a problem for a lifetime member to make contact after 6 years for advice/a letter? Especially as apparently lots of people joined, got the information they needed and didn't return, so it wasn't as if everyone was doing it.
I can see though that it is a huge amount of work for very little return, to run something like this.
