What was the level that you are using as base line?
Having an absorption problem is different from having no absorption so possible that some was absorbed from diet.
Also possible that if two different types of kit were used to measure the serum B12 then you would get different results ... though likelihood of that would depend on exactly what the variation was.
Also, as you are talking about active B12 it may be that something has happened that has meant your body has converted some of non-active form B12 you had in your blood into the active form, eg an improvement in folate levels because you had a folate rich meal.
