Not sure if these are any help. The studies mention that taking b12 lowers homocysteine.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/172...

Non pregnant vegetarian women

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/103...

Kidney disease patients. Also mentions that MMA levels fell.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/110...

Mentions heart disease

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

I think there may be some info in the book "Could It Be B12" by Sally Pacholok and JJ. Stuart. At the end of each chapter in this book are lists of scientific articles and studies.

Hello,

Here is a study about unreliability of the tests, might help, but will continue trying to find info on your specific question.

I had a homocysteine test before starting B12 injections and it was high. I haven't had it checked since, but it should now be much lower after the injections as B12 is supposed to bring it down.

As these are more cellular tests, surely, in my opinion, these will be truer reflections of what is going on, the improvement that has been made. It's what you're aiming for? Personally I hope for the opposite of what ur suggesting- we need to be able to trust some results....

My hcy was 13, last check showed 5.6. I was happy. MMA got lost somewhere but hopefully has dropped.

Not heard of inaccuracy being a huge problem with either of these tests. However, they aren't tests that are looking specifically at B12 but they are looking at substances that build up when the body isn't managing to use B12 properly - so they can be indicative of a B12 problem - but in the relevant processes B12 is only part of what is going on so they are only indicators that something else is going on which could be B12 related rather than actual indicators of a B12 problem ... basically they can help to clarify if there is a B12 problem given the problems there are trying to interpret B12 serum tests but they aren't actually tests that will tell you on their own if there is a B12 deficiency.

Not what you're looking for?
