presume you are based in UK.

hydroxocobalamin is actually licenced to be used every 2 months in the UK - presumably a manufacturer could apply to get the licence changed but as the guidelines in the UK are 3 months if no neurological symptoms and 2 if there are neurological symptoms, it probably isn't worth their while applying for a change in the licence as most doctors just follow the guidance and they tend to be rather scared of being persecuted (which has happened) if they try for more frequent.

In germany the same products are licenced differently and the general recommendation is maintenance shots monthly ... or as advised by physician.

There doesn't seem to be any well established scientific basis for 2 months in the UK - nearest anyone can get is a study in Canada in 1960s which showed that on average people retain hydroxo 2x as long as cyano... but also showed significant numbers don't retain hydroxo as long ans syano .... so definitely not correct to assume all are okay on half the frequency. Anyway that was the point at which frequency of maintenance shots moved from monthly to every other month .... and then it moved to 3 months if there wasn't any neurological involvement in the 1980s for reasons that really don't seem to have based on science but were probably government penny pinching.

Hello Steph . I have hashimoto and PA.. GP has agreed to 2 monthly injections for me but did have to wave BCSH guidelines under nose and tell him that due to peripheral neuropathy and Thyroid I should be getting them more often. Even so I still have to take extra in form of 2 x 5000mcg sublingual everday just to be able to function.

I was having injections every three months and was feeling constantly sick and queasy in my stomach as the injection drew nearer and tired so the doctor agreed every two months. She looked at my levels and spoke to the lab and they said go by the symptoms not the levels. I don't see why you can't have two-monthly. In fact, as i have loss of feeling on my feet and have had for a long time, I asked for monthly jabs and got them. The monthly was a 6 month trial which has come to an end. Due to speak to the doctor soon but will ask to continue as have so much more energy than for years. My feet are still numb but will discuss with the doctor. From what I've read jabs can reawaken the nerves if not completely dead. I have had other syrange feelings on them. I hope you can get two monthly jabs. I think some doctors are more reasonable than others.

Hi Steph, I have both and my GP agreed to trial me on six weekly injections of B12. Because I went back to see her and reported on the improvements I'd noticed, she has agreed to keep me on the six weekly injections. I was feeling as though my battery had run down whilst waiting for the three monthly top up. I don't think there is any valid reason they can't inject more frequently. My GP also told me the injections aren't costly. MariLiz

I think we need to get our B12 levels raised to a good level in order to be able to use the thyroid meds properly. Both conditions seem to be interdependent. Hope you get the help you need soon. Best wishes MariLiz

Yes I have Hashimotos and LOW B12. Now have weekly injections as I am trying to repair nerve damage in the spine.

What thyroid tests have you had done ? - do you have any recent results with ranges ? Maybe your result are not optimal. Docs are just as vague about the thyroid as they are about B12/PA. Seems most of them missed both lectures at Medical School :-)
