Next injection?

Hypopotamus profile image
7 Replies

I completed 6 loading injections last Tuesday (self-injecting), and have been feeling loads better than I have for about 30 years or more.

My question is when do I do my next injection? Should I simply wait until I feel lousy again, and then do one? And would I take that time gap as the guide for how frequently I have an injection?

Did you have neurological symptoms?

What form of B12 are you using?

If hydroxo and you had neuro symptoms then treat every other day until symptoms stop improving, then do maintenance shots when you start to feel the symptoms returning ... which could be a lot earlier than the 2-3 months used in the UK.

Cyano is probably pretty similar - though maintenance is generally around 1 month ... though that still varies.

How much B12 you need is likely to vary - stressful events and you may need more so best thing is to deal with your body.

Keep an eye on your folate levels ... and if you were anaemic keep an eye on your potassium levels.

Thanks for the reply. One of my problems is that I have not felt all my life (nearly 65 years) so when I'm told to keep doing something until I symptoms stop improving, I have no real idea of when I am as well as I should be.

The neurological symptoms have improved, but I guess the way to find out if I can get better still, is to try a few more injections to see if I do improve further.

Firstly: fabulously well done!

Do what you need to feel well and hopefully get increasingly better. It is safe and not too expensive so don't suffer when you don't need to.

Everyone is different and the bodies' requirements change so I would suggest experimenting to see what makes you well.

It only affects a few people but I get spots when I'm "fully loaded" and use that as a guide.

Enjoy your new life ahead!

Thanks for that Denise. No spots so far, and I woke up this morning with some definite signs of the neurological symptoms returning so I will do a few more injections every couple of days.

It's difficult to express the elation of being able to treat myself immediately, without the silly process of waiting months (or even years) while doctors dither, and then tell me that I don't need treating.

protocol is until things stop improving so if you are seeing an improvement then keep going.

I had 4 decades of depression and 3 decades of mild neurological problems before I finally realised that they were down to B12 when I started treating myself.

I wonder how many people are suffering decades of illness because of this type of problem? How I wish we had had the Internet 40 years ago, and I had found out that injecting B12 was the solution.

Clearly, better eduction is needed for both patients, and those calling themselves doctors.
