I have PA and I get very frequent mouth ulcers. Is this related to B12 deficiency does anyone know? Am going to start self injecteting soon to supplement GP injections so will be interesting to see if it improves.

Mouth ulcers
Hi Songbird63 ,
Mouth ulcers can be caused by so many things, generally a sign of being run down, can be anaemia, such as iron/ folate and or B12 def, or other deficiencies, so not only caused by B12 def.
Have you had a recent blood test? Is your ferritin (= iron storage) OK etc?
Kind regards,
Marre.
Had blood tests recently and was told all was ok, but still haven't got a print out of results. I take a high strength vit B which has all the B vitamins, and and iron tablet a couple of times a week. Have had them all my life but just wondered if they might be connected to B12.
Have been told in past can be related to IBS or IBD. Am having a colonoscopy/endoscopy and a SEHCAT scan soon as I have a lot of gut problems.
Many thanks Marre, and for all your posts ....I have found them so helpful. I run a forum for another support group and I know how time consuming and demanding it can be. Many thanks.
Hi,
Good you are having colo/endoscopy, it may well reveal why you have problems with deficiencies. I had it done eventually 2 years ago, after a 30 year diagnosis of IBS getting out of hand, am now diagnosed with bile salt mal absorption, and an abnormal terminal ileum (smooth), which all explains a lot in my case, have been given stuff that finally helps me and I am finally putting on/ maintaining weight.
Lots more info in this:
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
Ask to have excluded:
Chrohns
Coalic
H Pylory
Achlorhidria.
Thank you for your kind words, hope your tests are soon, the procedure is over and done with in 20 minutes, but the clear out in advance is a bit more boring. Wishing you lots of good luck!
Kind regards,
Marre.
They think it might be BAM hence the sehcat scan which is fairly new and wasn't around when I last had similar investigations. I remember the bowel prep! Yuk.
Many thanks again Marre... Keep up the good work. I'm sure you have made a difference in many people's lives.
I think it can be related. For me, upping my folic acid intake has really helped. I take at least 400mcg everyday. I've found that if I don't take at least that much, the ulcers return.
