Maximizing Methylation

Methylation is a key biochemical process that is essential for the proper function of almost all of your body’s systems. It occurs billions of times every second; it helps repair your DNA on a daily basis; it controls homocysteine (an unhealthy compound that can damage blood vessels); it helps recycle molecules needed for detoxification; and it helps maintain mood and keep inflammation in check.

I haven't had time to watch the video yet, but I take methylated B vitamins every day with the hope of reducing homocysteine levels. I'm having blood tests again in a few weeks.

I encourage everyone to have their blood checked regularly (every 3 months or so) to determine homocysteine levels, among many other things.

Jim

These 2 tests need to be done to determine the B12,B6,Folate deficiencies.

- Methylmalonic Acid (MMA)test to help detect early and/or mild vitamin B12 deficiency; to help diagnose methylmalonic acidemia, a rare inherited metabolic disorder.

- Homocysteine test to help determine if you are deficient in vitamins B6, B9 (folate) or B12; to determine if you are at increased risk of heart attack or stroke; to monitor those who have heart disease.

I've mentioned this before Jim, but in case you missed it, synbiotics lower homocysteine, among many other health benefits.

Not sure about homocysteine testing in other countries, but here in the US so far I didn't have much luck in asking doctors to test for it even though I have MTHFR variant. Their usual response is that they don't test for homocysteine which makes you wonder if there would be a prescription drug to treat it, would homocysteine testing be more common? And unfortunately, both physicians and patients are tied up by insurance coverage. I insisted on testing homocysteine couple of years ago and ended up paying $250 out of pocket because insurance didn't cover it.

I have terrible insurance but it covers homocysteine testing. Some mainstream doctors are more willing to order the test than they used to be.

I think it might also depend on the billing code - some doctors are better at knowing intricacies of billing codes then others.

Sad but true.

No, but I wish I did. It's a hoot. That guy does a lot of pranks on YouTube.
