Hi all

I've recently had a very bad dose of flu and since then have experienced a worsening of my symptoms which until then have been mild and responding well to Sinemet. I'm now experiencing dyskenesia. I was diagnosed in December 2017 have been on sinemet 25/100 3 x a day. Also taking 1gm thiamine under Dr Costantini. Has anyone else experienced this?

This article suggests that the flu may be a problem as regards PD.

Hi there

I had a similar experience after a bad old and hopeful88 pointed me at this previous post which I found helpful:

Thank you so much SmokeyPurple this is really helpful.

Our son's experience (he's 49 and had PD since 2010) is that during an illness or infection he is much more sensitive to the Sinemet medication. This results in a marked increase in dyskinesia and during his illness we now reduce his Sinemet by almost half. In his last stay in hospital with a chest infection he had a nurse by his bedside to stop him falling out until we reduced the Sinemet. When the infection has cleared we put the dose of Sinemet back to normal over a 2-3 day period.

I had the same thing happen to me. I had a wicked stomach flu that started the last part of June and I am just starting to get back to to my pre illness control of my PD symptoms. Take care of yourself until you are fully recovered...it will get better.

I had a bout of pneumonia a couple of years ago that put me in hospital and worried me more than the PD did. During the time I was in hospital the PD exacerbated badly and I was told by several health care professionals (including a paramedic on my ambulance journey to hospital) that infections usely made PD much worse and that turned out to be just so true. But once my infection cleared up and I was home and my PD symptoms returned to the level they were at before my illness, but not quite. I recently had another admission to hospital with a bad chest infection. PD symptoms worsened too, but not like they did when I had pheumonia. My mobiltiy has definitely dropped off as a result of chest infections. I was diagnosed in June 2015, but had symptoms for maybe 18 months prior to that. I notice that you are on B1, which I've read a lot about on these pages, but for all the rave reviews people seem to have lots of probs too. All the best mate. Travel well. Mauriora - Robson
