benfotiamine vs thiamine hcl

My initial symptoms improvement (before switching to thiamin HCL) is credited to 500mg/day of benfotiamine. I must now reconsider choices. HCL is reported to be effective in one to two months from starting. I will continue with thiamin HCL for the remaining 5 weeks and after two months total if I do not see greater improvement w/ HCL, I will return to Benfotiamine.

Has anyone found a primary finding\study reporting that benfotiamine cross or is transported across the BBB in humans?

Is the use of benfotiamine for Alzheimer's based on improving sugar control and insulin resistancey in the periphery?

I would also like to know the answer to whether benfotiamine crosses bb. It has been suggested that Dr c thinks it does not. Studies seem to say fat soluble b1 is better absorbed than water based. But fat soluble (benfotiamine) is

Man made.,.any thoughts or info

RoyProp, As a result of your encouraging reviews, in addition to studying Dr. Constantini's reports, I have today started taking 4,000 mg of Solgar's Thiamine HCL 500 mg. I would appreciate clarification as to the following:

1. Do you take the Thiamine on an empty stomach or "preferably with a meal" per Solgar's directions?

2. Do you supplement with a complete B-complex vitamin, and if so, do you take it at the same time as the Thiamine?

I am grateful that you would take time to respond. I am not on any PD meds--though, from a clinical perspective, I most certainly should be. I prefer to explore all credible natural therapeutic interventions.

Thank you.

RoyProp: I have no problem swallowing the tablets. What led you to believe this was an issue?

in reply toSyncletica

My issue. They catch half way down, nearly choking to death.

Empty stomach.

B-Complex 2 hours before or after C/L.

You should be on C/L.

I just saw your response to my query. Thank you.

Yes, I "should be on C/L" ; however, I witnessed two acquaintances experience horrible side effects.

I'll keep you updated regarding effects of high dose Thiamine HCL.

Hi there Roy, Just wondering, did you ever return to Benfotiamine? May I ask why or why not? Dr. C believed it does not cross the BBB but I have read that it does. ? Thank you.
