My mums diagnosis: Hi my name is jan... - Pancreatic Cancer...
My mums diagnosis
Hi Jan, you have to push constantly for answers and action within the NHS, dont get overlooked, inoperable PC usually gets few treatment options , but they may offer chemo to slow the progress of the tumor down , it's very very difficult to treat and is extreemly aggressive . I speak from experience as my mum died 6 months ago at the age of 69 , she was a fit healthy woman at the time of diagnosis , unfortunatly pancreatic cancer does not stay in the primary site for long and usually travells to the liver or lungs or both . Hopefully your mum is comfortable and pain free , we had 10 months with mum , most people only have a few weeks , but they should be offering palliative care , it all depends on how advanced the cancer is and the size and location of the tumor . Its not acceptable to not have been seen by a specialist , 6 weeks on . Please make yourself heard. All the best and I'm sorry your mum was given this diagnosis . There is a facebook page , we have over 250 members who have all lost someone to Pc we support each other , or you could try Ali Stunt who set up this site , she may be able to advise the best way forward. Take care, Nessy .
Hi Jan i have terminal PC , i was diagnosed oct 2011 so now 15 months ago , i saw my oncologist within the week so you must chase this and see why she has'nt been seen , i had 8 months of chemo and the tumour had shrunk , not had any since August , will have a ct scan next month and see what that reveals and if the cancer has'nt spread then we will talk more chemo , if you go onto patients stories on this site you will find my story , i was almost 1 year before i got a diagnosis . As Nessy says keep at them , and join the site that Nessy told you about , its Familys in support of pancreatic cancer , i am also on the site and made some wonderful virtual friends on there including Nessie , if you would like any imformation , or if ther is anything i can help you with ...i have a timeline on FB under Cath Winterburn . take care Cath x x
Why can't she have PC removed ? has it spread? is it near nerves? look on the above website for specialist PC centres/hospitals (near you/her)push and push with NHS. Specialist centres/hospitals give second opinions on surgery! Good Luck!!
Hi jan my mom was diagnosed in january 2011 and saw a specialist within a week but we did have to push for this, it is a very aggressive disease so tell her to get back to the doctors asap and keep pushing, mom was put straight on to a morphine driver which really eased her pain and made her much more comfortable unfortunatly mom passed away on febuary 12 2011, fingers crossed , maria xx
