Has anyone got an answer to chronic thoracic nerve back pain. It leaves me with pains all over my central back. Nerve blocks did not work.

Sorry all the medication I've had from the Pain Clinic was useless or at least of no use to me, to date nothing has worked. Sorry I can't help.

zma and vitamin d helps me with occipital nerve pain and spasms from herniated discs in my neck. if the pain gets horrible I use a compounded cream with ketamine, baclofen and some other drugs in it.

Hi I have had severe thoracic pain for the last 6 months, enough to make me feel like it was my lungs and to bring on heart burn. Anyway,my thoracic xray was okay although spurs on several discs, and c6-c7 -c5 impingement . I had physical therapy ,and there was some muscle tenderness and tightness that was not helping, most of pain seems to be put down to originating in neck and spasms in thoracic area . So apart from a deep tissue massage ,heat when reallt bad, there is little more to do as I already take gabapentin for lumber stenosis and leg pain as well as dicloflex and cocodomal ..so pacing is really all they suggest lol. good luck and take care

Thanks for the advice. My pain started 4 years ago and I have tried everything to reduce the pain. I am currently taking Nortriptyline, Napraxon and Co-codamol as my group of pain killers but have tried all the morphine based pain killers but the side effects are not worth it. I have also had almost all the treatments available including nerve blocks /facet joint injections and nothing has worked. My problem is I cannot get any relief to do the most basic exercising and I am encouraged by my consultant to lead a sedentary existence. I cannot even walk for 30 mins. I am trying to be positive but it is difficult. I should also say that after MRI and Spec Scans , there is no evidence of where the pain source lies.

Hello, sorry no answer for permanent relief, I do find though that laying down on my side, top of my body curled round forward tends to open the gap between the vertebra that is nipping the nerves coming from between them, just for a little while, length of string while......... till it eases off a bit. Good but soft support for the spine when sitting leaning back, soft as in a pillow for the actual spine, mine feels grazed/bruised... hurts to the touch or leaning back on it, and it has spasms, and feelings as though thousands of pins have been pushed into it. Have just started using a 'V' shaped pillow on my chair, it helps, gives my head support, which helps the neck, also you can adjust the way you use the 'V' for support. I take pain relief, it just doesn't reach all the parts that hurt.

Hope you find some comfort some where.

Hi there are several drug therapies you can try if not done so already: Amitryptalline, Baclofen, Pregabalin or Gabapentin are good for neuropathic pain. But Girda had a very good point TENS machines are great. Good luck

I can't take morpine as a long acting drug as I get more muscle pain (ironic!) but oromorph/sevredol is a short acting morphine which has less side effects, have you tried that? Did you say you tried TENS?

Have similar problem to you. I too find no relief and the pain is a constant burning sensation. The tens helped but as other say you have to give it time. And try placing the pads in different positions. I sometimes put then either side of my thumb joint. It really is just a case of shifting the focus of pain for a bit. But it can be marvelous.

Also ask about a pain management program. The pain is still there at the end of it but you have rubbed shoulders with others in a similar position and been given tips on how to get the best out of the unwelcome experience. good luck.
