Hi I was suffering very badly at night and the doctor prescribed 25mg Amitripyline at night along with 100mgs Zoromorph which is a slow release morphine capsule this is ok for a while but I have increased the Amitripyline to 3 X 25mg which gives me a good night sleep no night is without pain it just make's it more managable for me I have sever ostyoartherites whic is in my spine hips and wrists in fact most of the joints. I have a fantastic doctor he understands the way med's work and has got them just right if I have a flare up because I have done something wrong then I take Oramorph oral solution it helps a lot. the increase is ok as you don't say why he takes it it's difficult to say what amount he should take hope this helps keep in touch and good luck
Oh sorry my first day! Stil finding my way around. Husband takes 50mg daily as norn for spinal cord nerve damage and subsequently ankling spondylitis. Pardon spelling. He is now waiting for op on good hip which has been the donkey for 30 years and takes extra 25 mgs. He is on morphine patches daily and tops up with cocodromol. He hurts a lot.
Even on extr 25 mgs pain in his bacl still wakes a night.
I am at a loss how to help. Dr won't give any more pain killers and Pain clinic are wonderful but cn only do as much as they do. All pain clinics are run by wondderful caring staff.
I will practise my typing. Promise.

I take amitriptyline at 50mg for chronic back pain i don't know that it helps much as ive still always got pain but anything is worth a try. i also take diclofenac, co-codamol regularly and tramadol when i cant stand it any longer. ive got several prolapsed discs and arthritis in my spine ive had 2 discs removed that were trapping a nerve and a spinal fusion but still got constant pain. Has your pain consultant offered you either acupuncture or spinal nerve block? Either or both can be very effective. Also up to 75 mg of slw release morphine patches are excellent. This lever still allows you to function. Never pain free but you do have some control. It is often getting the right cocktail of pain killers and muscle relaxants which helps. x
I take between 4 and 6 25Mg Nortriptyline (its one the same tricyclid group so is close to Amitrip), I take it for OA of the neck and it works well but it has some side effects I'm not happy with but it makes life bearable so I have little choice.
