Hi Sandra,
Whilst I have not been prescribed antibiotics for my back pain I have taken them for something else and they did not appear to make any difference to the level of pain I get, I have had a damaged back for many years and several times during that time I have had to take them for other reasons including taking them as a intensive course intravenously due to an infection I got after an operation and I did not notice any less pain even then.
so sorry to say I don't think they will help in any way with back pain.
Regards Poppy Ann.
Not had any relief from AB's but I did get it when I was told to take my nitrate spray. Which my GP told me can remove muscle spasm and indigestion? But he did not recommend I do it just for that?
Be Well
I have answered this question several times in my postings. See if you can find some of my previous post replies on the subject.
I had two courses of antibiotic running together to fight H Pylori and I found that my back pain eased, maybe the pain was from my gut bit I did feel a lot better.
You'll only need antibiotics for back pain if you have some sort of infection that causes back pain!!!
Some people can have a low grade infection that flares and subsides and I know of only one person who had antibiotic treatment for back pain and that was as an emergency. He had back pain getting increasingly painful over acouple of days before getting a very bad head as well, going to bed with what felt like flu. He was in HDU for 2weeks and an infection ward for 3 weeks. He had gone into septic shock. It came on like an old back injury flare that progressed rapidly into flu like symptoms, loss of conscious and then renal failiure caused by septic shock.
If you had a site of infection it would show on MRI
There are some theories about the use of antibiotics in autoimmune inflammatory back pain (spondyloarthritis - ankylosing spondylitis, etc) - that is because of a molecular mimicry theory where it is proposed that the autoimmune response is triggered by klebsiella in the gut. Its not a theory that is held by most rheumatologists though, and apart from some initial trials of a low starch diet (to reduce the klebsiella) there really haven't been any formal research studies on this. I believe the Roadback Foundation promotes the use of antibiotics for this kind of thing though, if you want to look them up. If your back pain is injury related or degeneration, I very much doubt whether antibiotics would do anything though.
Thanks for getting back to my posting.
Researchers in the Uk and in Denmark have come up with some results.
The information hit headlines in 2013 in the UK.
Hidden Infection by bacteria usually associated with acne could be to blame for up to half of all cases of sciatica.
Follow up tests on disc tissue taken from sciatica sufferers revealed the culprit to be Propionibacterium acnes, a slow growing bacteria commonly associated with acne.
Just wondering if anyone as experienced a course of antibiotics for this.
Dan,
When you have time could you elaborate.
I have found info on net from 2013.
Have you had antibiotics for back pain?
