Has anyone been prescribed cymbalta for back pain? I tried my first dose and it made me very nauseated and sluggish.

It isn't a pain medication.

It's for anxiety and depression.

So it won't help the back pain ,but may make you feel not as worried about it..

Makes some sense , I suppose??

It does have side effects, which will wear off after a while.

I would be looking for specific pain meds, unless your anxiety is exacerbating that pain??

Good luck.

Cymbalta or Duloxetine is licensed for both psychological conditions and neuropathic pain, it used to be prescribed off label for chronic pain many years ago when I started taking it for that reason. The maximum dosage for pain is 120 mgs, it seems to have very few side effects too which is a huge bonus when every other medication I take has many & it does work towards reducing pain.

Regards,

Mitch.

l too have just been prescribed this medication, not started it yet so l cannot comment on its effectiveness or side effects.

My consultant prescribed it for Fibromyalgia, so although it is an anti depressant, it also works to turn the volume down on pain for some, but not all.

Perhaps, persevere for a while and see how you go. God luck 🍀

I had it got changed after 6 weeks then changed Like lots drugs has side effects

Everyone different though

These side effects

It is possible they may ease off after a week or 2 that's normal as well

I'd give them ago

The drug is a antidepressant for depression or anxiety

Also used for

Nerve pain

And

Fibromyalgia etc

Cymbalta didn’t help my pinched pudendal nerve at all. I did have bad side effects like irritability, brain zaps, and I became immune suppressed. I stopped using it after two weeks.

hi, Iv had puedendal pain severely for 8 years. I took pregabalin and escitalopram for the last six years. My gp said that they were weaning patients off pregab and started me on duloxetine (cymbalta) . This has had some effect on the pain but not as substantial as pregab. Also my anxiety is back through the roof. Are you taking any other successful meds

Hi Sandra. I’ve had successful pudendal decompression surgery. Not one medication I was made to try ever helped to relieve me of the 24/7 burning pain in my rectum and intestines.

I tried every other alternative therapy with no success.

I have weaned off of taking 6 meds and I only take two meds at bedtime now. ( Amytriptyline and a sleeping pill ).

Passion flower tablets are a natural anti anxiety. You need to get that taken care of or you may acquire Central Sensitzation.

Why do do they cut you off of your Pregabalin? Was there an acceptable reason? Cymbalta can be hard on some people. It’s very hard to wean off of.

I noticed your post because of the symptoms you were having before surgery.

I’ve had burning pain in my rectum, along with a constant feeling that I need to move my bowels, for 3 years now. Everything checks out fine, but no one has suggested that it could be the pudendal nerve.

Were your symptoms similar, or was it just the burning pain? Did your surgery fix the problem?

That's interesting, I'd had both Gabapentine and Pregabaline without it hitting the right spot, it wasn't until they put me on Duloxetine that the awful shooting pains subsided, I'm on max dose of 60 mg morning and evening and on 15mg Oxycodone (morphine) slow release and 5 mg Oxycodone x 6 times a day but don't usually need it too many times probably more like twice depending what I'm trying to do!!

hi

My regime of pregabalin 300 am and escitalopram 20mg then 159 pregab at night with 15mg mirtazipine but the doctor decided that in accordance withNICE they were weaning pregabalin patients and then substituting with cymbalta. So I am currently weaning off pregab and I’m on 129mg cymbalta! But if a mess at present. I wish I had a magic wand.. until them il see how far I can go with the weaning off

My symptoms were similar ( burning ) but the longer the nerve was left pinched in three places I eventually started losing my bowels and I wasn’t aware because I didn’t feel it happening.

I’ve never had back pain. This neuralgia has all been rectal and in my ischial spine near my rectum and in my lower right buttock. Thank goodness the surgery has helped as I don’t lose stool anymore.

Hi, well l took this med for 2 weeks until l had to admit defeat. It made me feel woozy and very queazy, but l persevered with that and it did begin to subside. Sadly, l also have RLS and it sent that into orbit! I simply didn’t get any sleep and that did for me in the end. I am very disappointed that I didn’t get to see if the med would help with my pain.

Best of luck if you are still battling with it.
