pulsating tinnitus

I have recently started experiencing pulsating tinnitus & it’s horrible.

I’ve been to see 2 nurses at my local practice the first was a complete waste of time but the second was very thorough.

She’s referred me to an ent specialist but goodness knows how long I’ll have to wait for an appointment!

Does anyone suffer with this & if so how do you sleep?

Thanks

Gill

Hi.

I have had tinnitus for nearly 10 years now, 24 hours a day. I also get pulsating tinnitus, which is horrible to experience and explain to anyone, so I totally sympathise with you. I have I get it when stressed, or run down, but it makes me feel very strange and I do find it very hard to concentrate, or do much. Mine was caused by an autoimmune condition and have basically been told I’ve got it forever. Sometimes it is easier than others to ignore, but the pulsating is very difficult as it makes me feel quite spaced out. I’m glad you posted, as I’ve not heard of anyone else and it is so hard to describe so never normally say anything. Take care 😊.

I first noticed pulsatile tinnitus when I was 12 years old so have habituated it and I only notice it when I listen out for it. Or when everything about me is silent. The brain likes to be busy and if it doesn't get information in, it focuses on what it can perceive. So if there is no outside noise, like there is at night, then the brain only 'listens' to what it can hear like the blood pulsing past the nerves in the neck and face.

Can you amuse your brain with some gentle noise that will distract it from the tinnitus. It was the BBC World Service for me!

Hi there, I’m in the UK too. I have the kind of tinnitus you refer to. The pulsating is obviously your pulse/heart beat. I’ve had it for nine years. Can I ask, have you been prescribed a fluoroquinolone antibiotic within the last three months? Either Ciprofloxacin, Levofloxacin or similarly named Eye Drops or Ear Drops? Because they can give you this, and other reactions, which can start up to 6 months later. I can sleep because I have Gabapentin prescribed for severe leg pain also caused by Cipro. All I can say is to have a distracting sound like the radio or tv on to camouflage the tinnitus. I’ve had to make friends with it, at least you know you are alive! I have it for life so better to love it! Check out Quintox UK if you have taken this antibiotic. BW Isobel. xx

HiI have tinnitus.

I do use a BIPAP respirator which gives off a white noise which helps me sleep.

So maybe a white noise generator may help you sleep.

Just a suggestion
