I have been taking this combination for many years now due to arthritis which has required the replacement of both hips (as and when required) but never less than 4per dayI also take the anti-depressant sertraline 100mg ing morning

I

I am experiencing nightmares which are extremely vivid and upsetting and I am wondering if any other members are are experiencing this problem.

The leaflet on this medication highlights nothing of this problem

I take paracetamol and codeine and have no problems with these. Could it be the sertraline which is causing the problem? If it is upsetting then I'd speak to your doctor and see if he can suggest changing the dosage or maybe an alternative.

Hello strongmouse - Dihydrocodeine is not the same as Codeine because, Dihydrocodeine belongs to a class of medication categorised as an opioid analgesic. Dihydrocodeine is two to three times stronger than Codeine.

I only know this as I take Dihydrocodeine plus 2 paracetamol x 4times a day (exactly the same as Jazzer123blue). I also take 70mg Amitriptyline at 6pm, to help control night pain and allow me to sleep.

I find it’s the combination of medication that does it I have awful terrors every time I dose it’s very scary part of it is due to pain but I am on buprenorphine 10mcg patches and diazepam. The patches alone are ok and as long as I only take 2 diazepam a day then I can keep the terrors at bay however if I take any extra diazepam I get terrors also if I take codeine with the combination it gives me terrors. So I find all my meds fine on their own but the mix causes me to have terrors so I feel your pain they are horrible and really scary. I hope your gp can help I never told mine as I don’t want them to take me off my meds because I need them post recent surgery x

May I respectfully suggest that you talk with your GP or your consultant about the issues you are having.

I take the same Dihydrocodeine and paracetamol as you - x 4 times daily but, instead of Sertraline, I take 70mg of Amitriptyline at 6pm to help me sleep through night pain. It works like dream - with no nightmares.
