My doctor is saying that I need to get a spinal fusion because I broke T10 through T12 back in 2011 so over 12 years ago and it is caused severe phasis due to my osteoporosis and from never getting it surgically dealt with at the time. I'm working on getting my bones stronger and he saying that if I don't get the surgery I could end up in a wheelchair years later due to the curve progressing if I don't get the surgery. I was wondering has anybody had this surgery the spinal fusion of T10 through T12 and does it end up taking any of the excruciating back pain away? Or is it just going to fix the curve and keep it from progressing further making me more hunched over?

Does spinal fusion help take away severe pain from kyphosis due to broken vertebrae? (T10-T12)
I am sorry to hear about your excruciating pain. I cannot help you with this particular query, I had a fusion but on the L5/S1 level and it took away the horrible pain I had. The circumstances were very different. However I just thought when I read your post that maybe it would be a good idea to get a second opinion to help you make up your mind as it is such an important desicion to make.
Thank you. Yes this Dr is from the Mayfield clinic in Cincinnati Ohio. He is the best doctor and does all of the spine surgeries around here so he's really really well known for being the expert uncomplicated spinal surgeries and he does these kinds all the time. It's just that I only get to see him like twice a year so when I go back to see him in a few months I'll ask him about that. Because mine would be to fix my kyphosis / hunchback due to breaking T10 - T12 and I don't even know if with my osteoporotic bones if I'd even ever be able to get the surgery. But one of my questions before I would ever get it is I would want to know if it would relieve any of the pain or if it would just be to just fix the curve and not let the curve progress which even if it didn't eliminate any of the pain it still would be worth it to get it just so that it wouldn't keep going forward because I don't want to end up in a wheelchair or end up being an even more pain than I'm in now.
I am sorry I cant help you with that query. If you see him within the next 3/4 months it might be best waiting for his diagnosis then. It is quite unusual possibly for anyone on here to have had the same issue. Wishing you all the best.
Well thank you anyways for your help.
I have spinal cord injuries when I was 18 when 40 - now I have osteoporosis and kyphosis.
I'm sorry to hear that. So did you get a spinal fusion for your kyphosis?
