Coming off tramadol

On the 18th June I severely injured my foot fracturing my 2nd 3rd and 4th metatarsal and what's called a lisfranc injury where the mid foot is fractured and the ligament is damaged.I was prescribed co codmaol and tramadol both of these I worked my way up to maximum dose. I am not fully recovered but in the final stage of physio to go fully weight bearing and my GP is helping me come of the tramadol slowly and then eventually come off the co codmaol

I have been on Tramadol 100mg 4 times a day due to a nasty foot injury. I am reducing by 50mg every 2 days. I have been on tramadol before many years ago and went through withdrawal, cant remember if it started when reducing the dose or after I had the last dose. I have been on this dose since July and I'm just wondering if anyone has symptoms and what symptoms you had while reducing the dose or just when they had completed stopped even if you come off it slowly.

What are your experiences when coming of tramadol like this and is there anything you can suggest to help the symptoms

I have tried to lower my dose of tramadol but, each time I do, I suffer from restless legs at night, which stops me sleeping. So I end up staying on a drug that I don’t feel helps with my arthritic pain.

I have only reduced by 50mg so far and experiencing exactly the same but I am going to try and persevere with it and see if I can have anything for the restless legs when my gp phones me next week. I am in some pain but manageable so far but will see what happens when I reduce further over next few days

Hi there, I was just reading your post and thought I’d let you know my experiences with Tramadol. I was on Tramadol for over 18 years treating a shoulder problem called fibrous dysplasia, resulting from a childhood injury, but only started to manifest years later. The Tramadol helped a lot dealing with the pain, but years and years later it started to cause other issues including hot flushes, irritability and headaches. I never really liked taking co-codamol as it caused constipation with my slow bowel and with my headaches co-codamol just made them worse, so I only used to take these as and when I needed. This was all before 2016 when I had a prolapsed disc which has caused so many other issues up to now and i was taking so many other drugs in addition to the Tramadol including a nerve blocker (pregablin), anti-inflammatory (naproxen) and more recently transdermal morphine patches. With all this I decided to come off the Tramadol (taking 200mg twice daily). Like yourself, I reduced by 50mg week by week until I was only on 50mg overnight. Apparently Tramadol is normally out of the system after 72 hours, so that’s why I reduced it week by week to get my body used to the reduction in dose. When I came off the last dose, I had mild flu like symptoms, hot cold sweat, aches in my joints, but this didn’t last too long and then I was finally off them and thank god I did as I no longer have hot flushes everyday, maybe one every now and then (I have those to look forward to when I hit menopause 🤦🏼‍♀️) lol, my headaches have also lessened being off the Tramadol. Sorry to go on a bit, but hopefully this helps, fingers crossed you should be okay. Take care. 😊🤞🏻

Thank you to everyone who shared their stories. I too have been on opiates for many years. These are some of the things that I struggled with when reducing my medication... pain flare up's, although the pain would calm down after a week or so. violent mood swings when I would become incredibly low and cry for no reason. itching all over, stomach cramps and general aches and pains.
