Tramadol. I have taken it for quite a while, both after a car accident and for my wedge fractures. I honestly haven't found it very helpful yet I heard at
A&E that it is very strong and should really help. Personally I was disappointed in it. But, we are all different, so hopefully it will help you.

Hi , Trramadol did nothing for me at all! Couldn't tell any difference between taking it and not taking it.My GP said we all react in different ways. However when I took the equivalent pain relieving property in a different med I had a bit of improvement
thanks...I did have some morphine patches recently which I am now off. they helped tremendously as I was immobile, having broken a rib, and got 3 new fractures. Fingers crossed I am a lot better now.
Tramadol are an opiate but are less strong than morphine. They are often prescribed as Tramaset. Which is a tablet that has Tramadol and Paracetamol mixed. Bit like your codine mix you have now.
Have you tried dihydrocodine ?DF118 they are a similar strength analgesia to Tramadol. Some people find those better. What ever, if your present pain relief doesn't give enough relief for you to cope and have a reasonable quality of life then please go back to your GP and tell them. If you don't they will assume that their best guess was right for you.
DF118 are no where near as strong as morphine or Fentanyl patches. I use them to top up my relief when the max dose of morphine isn't working. DF118 is a bit different in the way it works. It is no good taking one and expecting relief like a normal person would with a paracetamol. DF118 is accumulative. It builds up in the system and them provides a background that helps fade the pain level down. As for addiction there is practically no risk. Strength of relief is 100 times that of pethidine as used in labour/childbirth.
thanks Rib - I am having to write it all down, as I will never remember when I see the doctor! Hope you are well ..have only just seen this pain concern site...hope I learn from it too. Take care
Hello
I have taken TRAMADOL for a long time now and I was taught how to vary the dose when required and reduce it when my condition dictated. Granted sometimes it fails to hit the mark and I have been known to take an excessive dose and generally find this does help the situation.
Generally I take a Cox2inhib medication as I am unable to to take general NSID medications as they cause problems with my bloods. I also take Amytryptalene that suppresses nerve pain so in a way the Tramadol is only part of my treatment. Please excuse bad spelling
I had a very bad reaction to one capsule of Tramadol, 50mg.
I won't tell you what it did to me, it made me very poorly indeed and, as a result, I am not allowed to take it ever again.
I am still suffering some after effects with regards problems with my head and it has been weeks.
It was a real shame as I had heard good things about how it might help with the pain I am suffering from. Now I am simply back to Gabapentin and trying to deal with the pain I am in by other methods.....but they don't work ! I have had 21 yrs of mind over matter and it can't help with all of my pain ! It doesn't come close to touching it, sadly.
Sometimes, one needs a little bit of help....but Tramadol isn't it, for me !
Sadly I gave had some very bad days since and I am pretty poorly at present.
I have RSD and my toes have clawed on my foot so that is under investigation, very painful, the tramadol was for my leg really !
I also have chronic daily migraine, I was diagnosed with stroke three years ago but it has been reclassified as migraine. The tramadol has affected my head badly.
So things are not great !
I gave lots of other issues, like most of us do, sadly
Oh, I am sooo sorry..I have never suffered from migraines, but have two friends that have suffered all their lives and I know how awful they can be. I do hope you feel a bit better over the next few days. The weather her ein Norfolk is very cheerful, so hope it is where you live. Do take care
Whoever invented Tramadol had an evil sense of humour along with all the other rubbish we are offered. Cocodamol? What is that other than a useless bowel glue! They do nothing other than make you feel ill! I've been watching the U.S. TV series House about the doctor who has chronic pain. He quaffs Vicodin or Oxycodone as it's called here. It keeps his pain at bay while all around him worry about his addiction but as he says, it's the pain relief he's addicted to not the meds! He had a Ketamine coma which worked for 3 months and his pain completely disappeared with Methadone but he kept falling asleep so he went back to Vicodin and scotch!
I keep being asked if I'm having bowel problems since taking the co-codamol, but to be honest I haven't ...never in a million years did I think I would be talking to a group of strangers about bowel problems!!!- ho hum - how life changes!!! Hope you are well today.
Sorry to read that Tramadol is not working for you. I have a neurological disease and nerve pain and muscle spasms ruled my life until my gp asked me to try Tramodol. I started with a low dose and built up to 150mg twice per day. The nerve pain has almost completely gone and a side effect that I wasn't expecting is my mood has improved so much that I feel at peace with the world.
Talk to your gp and try building up to a higher dose. You might be lucky like me.
Hi Sweetheart, I took it and only took one pill and was up for 36 hours. My Dr. said I react like 5% of the population. Lucky me. I don't know it you are still in pain but there are many, many better pain meds out there. Hope this helps!!! xxx Mitzi
Anytime honey that's why I'm hear to help and get help. Plus it gets lonely when you can't do all you once could. This is a great site. So many great people!!! Hope you had a great day. xxx Mitzi
Tramadol doesn't come close to touching my pain, but like previously stated, everyone is different. The only thing Tramadol helps me with is when I run out of my meds from time to time, it helps ease my withdrawal symptoms. Good luck in finding something that works for you.
I'm in the States and our pain meds are different I believe. I'm on hydrocodone (Norco) 10mg (for pain); Gabapentin (Neurontin) 300 mg 3 times a day (nerve pain) and Flexeril 5mg at bedtime (muscle relaxer)
I've learned some interesting things about the make up of the body and body chemistry.. And why different meds work on some ppl and not others... It also depends on where your pain is and what's causing it as to what would be more effective. Hope you feel better.
I've written them down and will ask my doctor, but I am sure you are right that our stuff is different to the American ones. One wonderful thing for us is that we can get them even if we can't afford them.....I lived in America for 14 years and couldn't believe the price of medical help!! Hope you are well and not suffering too much pain. Take care and good wishes from England
Thank you Louisiana! I've always wanted to visit England, my best friend moved there some yrs ago! Yes, healthcare can be astronomical. But I'm on medicaid and I only have to pay a small co-pay ($4) to get my meds.. Good wishes from America to you! Have a blessed day
I've been on tramadol for since. 11 January 2002! Yep over 12 years! I'm lucky that it works for me. I'm on 400mg a day. My son was born dependent to it...(he's a strapping 10year old now ) and was v poorly at the time of birth. Gabapentin, amatriptyline, oral morphine all caused mind altering side effects leaving me unable to do anything. I have RSD/CRPS in both legs and osteoarthritis in hips, knees and pelvis. But I'm still laughing...most days.
I was on Co-Codamol 500/30 and in the end it did nothing much for me I am on Tramadol 50mg every 4 hours now but even then sometimes it is not hitting the spot! But I do not have the terrible constipation I did with the co-codamol.
I am still on that strength of cocodamol and unlike everyone else, I don't suffer the constipation....I have no idea why....am back to doctor next week before going to Rheumatology at the hospital, so I will see what he has to say. He is actually very good and very knowledgeable, plus I have a nurse practitioner that specialises in lung diseases, so I am blessed really.....the luck of the draw, as they say. Hope you are pain free today
Does nothing for me to take the pain away it's like taking smarties I take 6x2 50 mg sciatia in both legs and awful back problems
