Due to arthritis I've been living with chronic back pain for 15yrs, had a knee replacement and also hip bursitis. I had an operation on one hip last year but I find I can't get very far with the physio because of my back pain.I've also been taken off buprenorphine then more recently tramadol.my pain stops me from doing anything and I'm getting no help from gp's.
I really can't cope with all of this, has anyone got any suggestions please.
Regards Maggie

Sorry to hear your having a lot of pain … I have Psoriatic Arthritis and use Australia Dream Cream of my joints for me it works and worth a try and you can order from (Amazon) I also used Blu Emu it was good too but I like Australian Dream Cream better… Maybe your doctor can provide you with Lidocaine patches for back or buy some Biofreeze gel pain patches at pharmacy .. these worked for me only thing I hated was the extreme cold when you first put them on put that disappears in a few seconds.
Thanks for your reply,I used to get lidocaine patches a few years ago but they stopped giving them, they were good. You must be going through a lot and I hope you can get some help with your health problems.
I'm sorry you are in so much pain. I don't know if it is just your GP you are having problems with. If so, ask to see another GP, Ask for an explanation & if you can be put on other medication. have you explained how important being pain free is to doing physio.? I'm sure you have but I don't know your background. If all else fails, contact PALS Patient Advice & Liaison Service. Please keep updated. Hope this helps.
Hi and thanks for your reply,I have asked the questions and getting nowhere with my surgery which is small-only 4 GPS so I'm thinking about moving.also I'll contact PALS and keep you updated.Quick question ,the pain clinic is now run by Connect Health and they are hopeless.have you heard of them?thanks
I too am sorry to hear of the problems you are having. You are very similar to me in that I have had back problems for years and then osteoarthritis set in as well, I also have had a knee replacement and had hip bursitis. (had an injection which calmed it for the time being) I have been given Physio for both back and feet. The first session I had my back went badly but as soon as I improved I started up the physio again but to be quite honest I can see no improvement as yet I just hope it's strengthening my back muscles to prevent it getting any worse and I am managing to do the physio twice daily without too much pain at last now. The feet & ankle physio is not helping my walking at all, in fact I think it made it much worse so have stopped doing it. I keep getting passed from physio to Podiatry & getting quite fed up as the distance I can walk without severe pain and coming to a complete halt is getting less and less and I'm not a person who likes to be immobile at all. I find it hard to tolerate many of the pain killers and don't seem to get any helpful help from the doctors. Hoping you can get some better help from yours very soon
Hi thanks for your message and you do seem to be in the same boat as me unfortunately. My knee replacement was 6yrs ago and I still have pain in it so hopefully yours has worked?I've had trochanteric bursitis in both hips for 5yrs and after many injections, last August i had an operation.i was given 50/50 chance of op being successful and I went for it. My wound didn't heal for 3 months but then I started physio and did well until January when my back started flaring up.this along with gp stopping my tramadol has meant no physio and now I can hardly walk.
I think I would go for the bursitis operation just as long as you can do the physio.cheers
No my knee wasn't very successful either it was done 4 years ago but swells up if I've been on my feet for long and even though I did all the exercises after the op I cannot bend it very far backwards. I guess it doesn't help as my feet are painful when walking so hobble somewhat which then affects my back and so on.
