I had a fusion and Harrington Rods when I broke my back, but this was back in 1989 - the bones had ‘burst’ and I had spinal cord damage - so my recovery period was long. I had a jacket - and spent about 2 months before I was moved to another hospital.

I had spinal fusion done on L2-L4, with a disc replacement as well. so I have Two metal rods on either side of surgical area and a metal bar across the metal disc replacement. The first 3 months were the toughest, but I went from using a walker to using a cane on 2 weeks. It takes a year for the fusion to be completely fused, but mine was fusing already by 3 months. The pain got much better after that time period.

I had a L5 S1 fusion with the rods and screws one year ago today. Surgeon thinks my continued pain is coming from the osteoarthritis in my SI joints.

I had an L4-L5 fusion in 2021. I was advised that wearing a brace would weaken the muscles. Now in 2023, I still feel lower back pain. I have an annular tear at the fusion and Foraminal stenosis and mild bulging at L3. I see the doctor in 2 weeks because the steroid injections and the nerve blocks aren’t working for me. I have degenerative disc disease. I’m waiting to see what comes next.

Hello

I have full spinal and neck fusion.

I've had a disc replacement at L4/5 but it failed.

I've also had vertebrae removed in thoracic area.

I'm I'm currently struggling due to the screws in my neck being inserted "incorrectly" the pain is horrendous, but the NHS have said that it would be far too expensive to fix my problems (they would have to open the full spinal fusion & check the rest of the rods/fixings).

I have absolutely no quality of life, the pain these screws cause I can't put into word's!

I'm 53 year's old, I've been having spinal operations since the age of 17.

All different problems are occurring in my body due to the spine, leg's, bladder, gastrointestinal, neck movement, I am at the end of my tether! The only thing that the NHS seems to want to do to "help" me is keep upping my dosages of the numerous tablets (options included).

I'm sorry for going on, but I'm really fed up. My life seems like it doesn't matter!

I do matter, but I am so tired of fighting the NHS!

I wish everyone the best of luck with their spinal issues and hopefully you'll get a good quality of life 😊
