Microdisectomy is what I’ll be getting this Christmas. My surgery date is set a few days before Christmas and I’ll be doing physiotherapy for a few months after. I’m only 19 and have a bulging disc, plus the disc above that one is slightly protruding. I also was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease. I posted previously about not wanting to get surgery, but I feel forced into a corner to get it. It’s been 11 months since the pain started and about 8 months since the severe pain started. Most bulging discs heal by themselves within a maximum of 3 months. Most people find relief from back injections and stretches/pysio. Nothing has helped me at all. I got an appointment so quickly and a surgery date all in the span of a couple months. People said it could take up to a couple years!! Some people tell me it’s because I’m so young. Anyways, it’s all going by so fast, I’m so nervous. I was wondering if anybody has any experience with getting anesthesia and/or surgery. Specifically back surgery if possible??

I’m also on this sight for my mental health diagnosis, so surgery is a huge thing for me mentally. I’m so afraid of messing up the healing process, so if you have any tips on how to heal a back surgery or any stories with your experience with anesthesia, I would really appreciate it. Thank you:)

I've had several surgeries with anesthesia. I'm a senior citizen and still keep waking up fine after surgeries. You just get put to sleep and then you wake up and it is all done. I'll say a prayer for you that you get through your surgery with no problems.

I’m not sure if I can answer for your question. What I know, young people should stay away from neurosurgery log g as they can also is not recommended. And not always give 100% results. Also lot of risk. You too young for that. But I’m fighting with degenerative disc disease one year. I’m 33. Nothing helps. Phisio too. Recently I been in hospital and lost mobility for one and half month. Now just I pry to God to get injection or surgery which appointment is nxt year! I’m claustrophobic, and I have attack panic especially after narcotic pain reliefs or analgesia’s Is hard to control this but I have to do. Probably I’ll be scared when that time come but I hope anything gonna be fine.

hi tigerblossom55,

my name is kevin from london , i have had a few surgerys under a general anes and it can seem daunting but its ok when you wake you have no pain and feel light headed ,and then the healing begins. one of my surgerys was on my right arm i cut through muscle and artery and nerves and they repaired it , but the consultant took one look and said i did not need physio(even though my hand was hanging down a i could not lift it up. i insisted on therapy and had six weeks x 3days but because they did not do it straight away i have restricted movement in my hand. so its a good idea to have therapy as soon as you can. when i was older i cut my thumb(tendon) but had 20 weeks of therapy because i insisted on it and told the nurse i would not finish until i could move and grip with my thumb and it works fine now. i suffer with multiple issues one of which is servere degeneration of the spine (thoracic ) i have had physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and heavy duty pain killers(patchs i wear every week) in britain the therapy is hands off and that did not help its always better if its hands on where they physically help you. i had this in neurophysio and it worked well but then covid hit and it had to stop now i am just waiting for new appointments. i hope the surgery goes well and wish you all the best, just make sure you get all the therapy you need when you need it . good luck(you won't need it) kevin

Hi , bless you ,you are so young to have this. I am quite a bit older :) I've spent the last 11 years living with my pain and the last 4 walking away from surgery , during which time it has got a lot worse.mine is most painful buttocks, legs, feet, and hip area of back. I am on a referral again and feel this time I will have it done I've tried everything else . But like you I am worried that I will mess up recovery and all will have been for nothing. I think the way I'm trying to deal with this is to read all I can ,especially on the spinesurgeons.ac.uk/ site ..and spine health as well as here. Then thinking what it would feel like to walk without or with less pain , what it would feel like to move without pain..etc. I wish you the best of luck if you have surgery ..and I would think your age is why they want to get you done asap . Good luck fl
