Piriformis syndrome
Hi, I thought I had piriformis syndrome last year but was told by an nhs physio I have true sciatica, the symptoms are very similar- good idea to see a professional if you haven’t already.
There’s lots of info about stretches on the net, but I will say take it gently - I did quite a bit of yoga to try to help and sadly I think I made it worse, I thought I could stretch it out but I was wrong. Gently does it would be my main advice from my experience. Take care and hope it will improve for you.
See a good physio . The wait for NHS appointments is huge but you should be able to source a suitably qualified private physio and you'll only need 1 or 2 appointments to get you doing the right exercises in the right way.
I got one of those percussion pistol yokes that was recommended on this site a while ago (Brad n Bob) I got it from amazon.de.
It worked a treat- I had tried all the stretches from internet. I put it on high strength and zapped the triggerpoint just once. Quite sore for a day after, but then loosened up. No pain now and great range of movement.
I appreciate the concerns about bruising and doing damage, but my hip was so sore I was prepared to do anything.
I would have gone to a physio, but mine has gone abroad. She probably would have dryneedled it. (You know who you are, Amanda 💚)
That's my experience.
Thanks for mentioning the massage gun I just bought one for my psoriatic arthritis issues.

$50.00 on Amazon…. I have psoriatic arthritis that attacks my tendons and causes muscles to stiffen and used one in physical therapy but never looked them up since they cost over $200.00
Hi Sheila13, thank you very much for your comment. I am sorry to hear you are struggling. Some resources that might be of use to you are: painconcern.org.uk/product/... and also painconcern.org.uk/self-man.... This may provide information on tips to manage piriformis syndrome. Another option would be to contact your GP. The following link will help you get the most out of a potential appointment with your GP: painconcern.org.uk/product/....
If you would be wiling to provide more details on how this is effecting your life, I could possibly provide more specific resources to help i.e. if it is effecting your sleep.
Hope this helps.
If you have the time I would also appreciate it if you could fill out this form: forms.office.com/Pages/Resp...
Many thanks.
