I've suffered with back issues for 40 yrs. and have gone to a neurologist, an orthopedic surgeon and other medical doctors...no surgery. The most immediate relief I've had is from chiropractic care. I should add most chiropractors use their own particular methods, spinal manipulation works best for me (cracking your back).
I have tried everything and find that deep tissue massage and heat works best but sometimes I am too sore to be touched.
Twisting and bending makes it worse so less of that if you can manage.
Been to physio, chiropractor, had needles, saw foot specialist, orthopaedic surgeon and had lower back and neck MRI scan, lots of damage but just advised to keep taking tablets.
Wish there was something else that works.
Sitting in my leather recliner, in upright position is more comfortable than my bed and sometimes eases pain.
When it seized up bad I tried tramadol but it did nothing.
Bought a heat pad for whole back length with different settings and for neck, and I think that helos but not totally sure. 🤷♀️
Surgery is the only answer I’m afraid, unless you want a lifetime of visiting a chiropractor or osteopath and the pain becoming increasingly worse with time. Your doctor in the short-term could offer you stronger medication as in morphine based or opiate based painkillers, they could even up the dosage of your gabapentin.
Chiropractors are not medically trained. The research into there method found that it was just as good as a massage but there is actual danger when it goes wrong and people die. I have chronic pain and tend to use naproxen but I also use meditation made for dealing with chronic pain (I suggest the app Overcoming pain)
I had/have a severe herniated disc in my lower back, when my muscle go into spasm/when my back goes, I find anti-inflammatories Naproxen and my good back strap/support help, also I know it's probably hard to walk and probably takes your legs away but keep moving slowly, little and often helps me recover quicker.Hope this helps.
