Little toe/foot pain!

Hey there.

I am not sure if this is the right place to post and it is super hard to explain so please bare with me.

Over the past year I have got into a bit of a habit of banging/crushing/hurting my right little toe. Not sure why I am so clumsy and keep hurting it but now I am becoming concerned about it and not sure if it is worth a trip to the GP or not.

Last week I had purchased some new walking boots and unfortunately I feel they were a bit too narrow for my feet, I did a 10 mile walk in them and ever since it is as if they crushed my little toe. My right little toe for a while now has become large in size, I have pain in my foot going up my leg coming from it, I am able to move it downwards but unable to move the little toe to the side. I can focus really hard on it and it just will not move, takes me about 2 minutes to get the tiniest of flinches in it.

I am wondering if I have done permanent damage or if this is something that just needs resting and it will heal itself, I know sometimes when it comes to broken toes and such the hospital/GP do not really do anything so I do not want to go and waste there time if this is nothing.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated, I am missing my walking but unable to because of this situation.

You should see someone, but probably the best person would be a podiatrist as they are the experts on everything below the knee. In some areas you can self refer, but in others you have to go through your GP.

If you go to the podiatry page of your local trust or hospital, find out if you can self refer, and if not take the information with you to your GP to ask for a referral.

I suspect if you go to the GP only they will just say wear wider shoes, but if you go to a podiatrist they will look at the whole foot and find out why this was happening before the current walking boots.
