Emphysema - recent diagnosis only 30yrs old.

Hey there, I've often thought about posting but I've always been the type of person to read rather than post. So first off hey there folks. Over the last 8/9 months I've been suffering from incredible chest pains, breathlessness, dizzyness and regular flare ups. This caused me to leave one job and then start another only to realise that it was a lot tougher so also quit that. I was recently told by my doctor after xrays and a ct scan that I have emphysema. Naturally I was in shock mainly since I'm only 30 but now it's scaring the hell out of me. I have further tests this Friday to find out what stage etc I am at and hopefully to finally get the correct medication to help me. I am just looking to speak to people in a similar position as myself and any hints or tips on how to deal with the pains and flare ups. I was a smoker (20/30 a day since age 13) but I've stopped since finding out about this so anything other than stop smoking would be appreciated lol.

Hello, Hope you find some help and support. My father had emhysema for many years and one of the things the doctor said would help was to get as fit as people, that is improve his stamina. He bought himself a cheap indoor bike and would use it daily and it helped him a lot in terms of his ability to stay as active as possible.

Hi Kngkush I too have COPD Emphysema. My GP has referred me for Pulmonary Rehabilitation . This has been very helpful in getting me to my maximum fitness which in turn helps my breathing.
