Best pain meds?

Hi everyone, I suffer from joint hypermobility syndrome and as a result I’m constantly in pain. My Gp prescribed me cocodamol but it does absolutely nothing. I’ve been unable to get out of bed for the last three days. Can anyone recommend painkillers that work?

Welcome on board.

In answer to your question there aren't any pain killers as such. There are different meds for different conditions which hopefully can give a certain amount of relief.

Managing your pain is the key as with other forms of therapy ie swimming, accupuncture, heat, exercise and pacing..

There are stronger meds as in opiates but if you have just started on cocodamol your GP will be unwilling to go on to those.

Have you asked for a referral to Pain Management Clinic?

I wasn’t even aware that there is a pain management clinic. I will definitely ask for a referral on Monday x

There is likely to be a long waiting list but does depend where you live.

Hello

I have multiple disabilities, I was told to use the strong cocodamol but As a result of severe reaction I had to stop it. I was told I need to do physio. Not sure if this suits your condition but worth a try.

Wish a good health

I have a physio appointment scheduled for the new year so hopefully it helps

Good luck. Physio made a difference for me, just need to be patient. It takes time. Take care

Everyone metabolises drugs differently, and if co-codamol isn't working at all, it isn't that you have really bad pain, it is more likely that that isn't a drug that will work for you. Pain experts always start people on the lowest dose of codeine for a couple of weeks and if that doesn't work, they don't raise the dose, they try something else.

So definitely go back and ask for a referral to a pain clinic, or another pain expert if there is one in your GP surgery. Sometimes there are GPs who have done some extra learning and understand more about pain than others.
