I have recently been put on 30mg of Amitriptyline for depression, unable to sleep and fibromyalgia.
But since then I have been having problems, severe pins and needles, its like thousands of red hot pin pricks, but the main confusing thing is, it is mainly on my right side.
It is that bad I have hit my fist off a wall once or twice, but this did not help, except it gave me a couple nice bruises.
I am so fed up, and I've been signed of work.
I want to come off the amitriptyline.
Thanks
Angie
Any info would help.

Contact the prescriber, you seem to be having the side effects. When I had them they put me on Nortriptyline instead, it was much better, I had no side effects, and they worked as they were supposed to.
I agree, if this drug doesn't suit you you need to talk to your GP or who ever prescribed it and get something else. Not all drugs work the same way on all people.
I couldn't tolerate the dry mouth with this whereas my cousin barely got it and had no side effects bad enough that she couldn't handle them. I only lasted a few days but she did say the side effects stopped after 2 weeks so while it's worth talking to the doctor whatever you decide if you can tolerate the feelings you describe for that length of time you might find they go and you start to feel the initial benefit of the medication around the same time. Only you know whether it's worth trying for you
If you are having these side effects I would speak to your GP ,I myself had issues with that drug ( retention ) there are other options like gabberpentin or pregabilin which helps for nerve pain.
I agree. It doesn’t agree with you. I’ve heard quite a few complaints about Amitriptyline.
Speak to your doctor about another anti-depressant. The pins and needles side effect isn’t normal at all.
When you say the sensations are on your right side, do you mean from your head, neck, torso, along the whole length of your legs and right foot? I’d stop taking it immediately. Also to, I’d report it to a higher up authority. ( could it be because you sleep on your right side? )
I reported over 8 side effect complaints to Health Canada after experiencing terrible side effects like the unexplainable anger, brain zaps, brain fog, severe dry mouth and body weakness, and I reported that not one of them helped my severe nerve compression pain. I felt like a guinea pig!
I’m sorry you’re frustrated. Good luck finding a replacement.
Fibromyalgia can give a lot of symptoms , tingling, numbness, pain , pins and needles, etc I just pointed out you can take gabberpentin or pregabilin which are good for nerve pain.
Hi, I am very sorry for your problems. I was on 20mg but I wasn't happy because I found no help for my lack of sleep, I've had some muscle crump during the night and in the morning lots of stiffness in full body. Now I have a new Gp and changed my medication. I used to take before sleep 300mg Gabapentin and 20mg Amitryptiline. He gave me 150 Gabapentin+100Tramadol and 10mg Diazepam. He explain to me that in low doses, the Diazepam is functioning like muscle relaxant beside the help with the sleep... I am much better now, and my muscles crump during the night disappeared completely.
Hi, I have just joined this forum. I'm having pins n needles on my right side as well as tremors also on the right side. I've been on amit for 16 years and now the doctor thinks it's time to come off.
