Anyone have trouble sleeping / falling asleep after stopping Amitryptiline?

i know it is a sleep aid, so naturally when stopping your body has to adjust.. how long will it take before my sleep gets better?

Hi

I'm sorry I don't know the answer. Have you been give anything else to take instead of amytriptyline? My pain is so bad I get an hour or less per night, quite often no sleep at all. If I manage to get to sleep then pain wakes me up☹️. Please take care of yourself. Lynne

Lynne, have you tried turmeric or curcumin for your pain? What about magnesium or Epsom salt baths?

Two hours sleep isn’t enough. You must be feeling tired and /or anxious.

Relax with passionflower tablets.

Thank you for your kind words . Yes, I've tried them but thank anyway. Most of the time I get an hour or less. I've been told to grab sleep when I can, even if it's only 20minutes. How are you feeling tonight ? Take care. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

I use a Zopiclone sleeping pill every night for sleep. Without it I wouldn’t sleep a wink. It’s saved my life.

Melatonin might help you. Apparently, 10 mg is safe for sleeping.

Hi

Do you have to get melatonin on prescription? Take care. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

No. Buy it in a reputable health food store.

Did you come off cold turkey or did you taper off gently. if you have been on a drug for a long time you should taper off gently.

I tapered off over the course of about 2 weeks

This is too short a time period. Should be a month at least if you have been on the drug for a long time.

I agree. I’ve been on Noryriptyline for 10 years. I take 10mg tablets and if could wean off I’d remove one pill per week to two weeks and take more time.

Depends on how long you were taking amitriptiline. If a short time then not long but if you have been taking for over a year it takes about three months after you have had the last dose

I took it for around 9 months

You may find you have very vivid dreams for a few weeks but it should settle down
