See a chiropractor. Preferably a McTimony chiropractor. Neuro specialist know a lot about nerves. Probably knows very little if anything at all on how muscle behaviour influences pain and how the lack of skills in controlling muscle behaviour can be problematic.

You need physical manipulation to stretch out over contracted muscles. Your neuro specialist probably knows nothing about this.

There are things that the medical profession know a lot about. There are things the medical profession still deny the existence of. You are going to have to network with people to find out who are known to be good with their hands in the local area.

The first international conference on fascia was in 2007 at Harvard Medical School. Google "Thomas Myers" Google "Anatomy trains"

Muscles are strongest at their longest length. The more contracted a muscle is the weaker it gets. There are nerve connections into muscle to order a muscle to contract. There are no nerves to tell a muscle to uncontract. The uncontracting of a muscle relies on the effect of other muscles and the springiness of tendon, ligament and fascia. If the muscle gets over contracted it needs to be manually uncontracted. Hence the existence of massage therapists.

Fascia layers should slide over each other. Sometimes for one reason or other fascia layers can stick to each other and prevent free flowing movement.

Sports therapists should be able to explain all this to you. Spinal stenosis comes in various flavours. Some can be corrected by physical manipulation and specialised yoga. Others are more problematic.

An Alexander teacher can help with developing fine muscle control.

Pain killers cannot help with over contracted muscle. Over contracted muscle in one place can cause over contracted muscles in other places.

Sleep is needed for the fine control of muscles. So you need to find ways to make up for the loss of sleep via power naps.

If you are seeing a spinal specialist see what suggestions they have for your stenosis. Manipulation of the spine could damage already compressed spinal cord or compressed nerve bundles.

Did you have an MRI. If you have then the neuro surgeon should be able to see on there wether or not it is spinal stenosis.

I have had a lot of lumbar problems and 3 ops and a screed of injections and 2 denervations.

What I have noticed is that your back tries to protect the sore lower part and you will often compensate with the wrong posture which then results in neck and upper back or shoulder pain.
