Hi Jschalk. There is a sister drug to gabapentine which is called pregabaline. I'm not sure whether it affects your kidneys but it's worth asking your Gp or pain clinic about or check the online nhs website. Hope this helps. 😀

I have been on Pregabalin for several years I started with Gabapentin but it was making me dizzy and sick but my doctor changed me over and the sickness and dizziness went away so I have stayed on it I have not felt any bad effects from it and it does help with the pain, not sure if it effects my kidneys or not.

Regards Poppy Ann.

The drug gabapentin and pregabalin are both exerted primarily by the kidneys. Both have the same warning re kidneys, ie if having kidney problems to consult further. I was on gabapentin but experienced sight problems so was switched to pregabalin. After a while I found that my skin got so dry and my eyes got infected all the time so I was switched to tramadol for a month to have a rest so to speak. Tramadol did not help as well with the referred nerve pain. After a month I switched back. It depends what you take Gab for but both Gab and Preg are the best for referred nerve pain.

My personal experience of both drugs is that people react very differently. I'm allergic to both so be aware of the risks and report any side effects immediately. I was hospitalised twice.

Unfortunately it is not common knowledge that constant nerve pain can be caused by a vitamin b12 or D deficiency.Lyrica or gabapentin destroys the nerve fibre long term.Regular vitamin b12 injections will diminish the joint or muscle pain.So ask Your Dr for active Vit B12 as Serum is flawed ,folate, ferritin, iron, vit D,magnesium rbc .View the videos on b12awareness.org to see cases of misdiagnosis.
