I’m in excruciating pain all day and don’t know what to do to elevate it. How do you cope?

I presume you mean alleviate?

It really depends on what is causing the pain.

Arthritis etc can be helped by aspartame/ paracetamol.

Hot and cool bags can be helpful with most pains.

Anyway-- really need to know what the cause is.

Hi, Marley’s! Thanks for replying. It’s a pinched sciatic nerve. Can’t put pressure on my left foot without intense pain like stubbing your toe I scream for just a second. Then it’s incredibly painful throughout the whole day and night.

I have chronic sciatica and know how debilitating it can be. I note you live in America where treatments and doctors follow a different pathway to here in the UK. Can you tell us some more information? For example tests that have been carried out, medications tried, professionals you have tried.

If you give more detail we might be able to suggest something new to try…….

hi Bevvy! I’ve had the herniated disc diagnosed via ct scan in 2019. My primary care physician told me that I’ve gone long enough without requesting more Tylenol #3 codeine so…. Didn’t continue only leaving me to assume she knows I’m not addicted to anything. I’ve tried meditation, PT.

Now I have a pinched sciatic nerve which prevents me from walking without excruciating pain. I have signed a controlled substance agreement and am on a controlled substance watch via my psychiatrist who prescribed two sleeping medications. I’m laying on a heating pad and stretching as well as twisting my body into a pretzel formation to stretch the muscle near the nerve in my thigh.

Bevvy, Did you have a chance to read what I sent last about the sciatica? It looks like I’m replying to myself.

Sounds like you need an adjustment of the lower back. Try what I do. Lay on your stomach on the bed, then have someone put their hand or hands on your lower back and rock it back and forth vigorously. I have had many instances where my wife did that with me and we could hear a sound which is the vertebrae moving into place where they need to be. And, I could feel the pressure on the nerve go away. If that technique doesn’t work, try some other movements that twist your lower back area. Lay on your back and have someone pull your legs back towards your head. Or sit on the edge of the bed, keeping your hip area straight, and twist your upper body as far as you can to either side so that it causes your spine to twist. If none of this works, I go to my pain management doctor and she gives me a trigger injection or a spinal steroid injection. Good luck to you!

Great idea. I do a similar action on the kitchen table. Very hard to explain, but it involves twisting / rotating the spine against the leg.

It's great to hear that satisfying click.!!🥵

take a look at the Nerve Drs on YouTube. They’ve done lots of videos on nerve pain, how to alleviate nerve pain, supplements and treatments; including infrared light therapy, but must be between a certain frequency.

A couple of things that I’ve tried which might be helpful. Have you seen an osteopath? They have lots of knowledge about bones and muscles. Here in uk I have found them more helpful than physio or chiropractors. As well as using a heat pad, maybe try alternating heat with cold. You can get cold gels you put in the freezer and apply where pain radiates from - remember to wrap cold pack in something like a towel or you risk freezer burns. The other thing I have found helpful is doing gentle exercises in a swimming pool. I do a variety of stretches that I found on the internet. Even walking across the pool when water is chest height is helpful. One word of caution is, it’s easy to get carried away because the water feel so nice! You need to learn how long you can stay in the water before it becomes a problem getting out!! For me the optimum time was 20mins. Any greater than 25 mins I would suffer afterwards.

Thank you. My physician is a DO who is an Osteopath. She should know what to do. I thank you for your support! It means the world to me. Thank you so very much.

I would agree with seeing a good osteopath, who has succeeded before with others.

I had constant sciatica and got fixed by a chiropractor, after 6 sessions.

But it very much depends on their individual competence.

Good luck.

lit is really hard. I try to set mystified small manageable tasks to try and distract myself from the pain -also a lot of journal writing.
