Hello, I am just on here looking for some advice. I have a condition called Costochondritis and am in severe pain. The pain is in my chest shoulder back and arms. I haven’t found much to help it and wondered if anyone had anything to suggest? Thanks

Hi, I also have this and so do many others on here, it a very painful condition, the chest wall becomes inflamed that causes more pains and painkillers/anti inflammatory tablets or what you prepare to use normally help along with some rest.

Some times these pains can give symptoms of heart attack, BUT if you do get pains in your chest you should find Medical help.

Please see your GP about this and together you and your doctor will find a way forward. But your not alone with this.

Costochondritis is miserable and there have been several discussions where people mention things that work for them and, as ever, it seems to be very individual with different things working for different people: healthunlocked.com/search/c...

Depending on how long you've had it, are you waiting to see if it improves or has your GP mentioned a referral to a neurologist or a pain clinic? Maybe some steroid shots if you're range of activity is severely limited by this?

Hi.. I am also a costachondrisis sufferer... I have just come through a nasty flare up that knocked me for six..

There's not much you can do about it really.. anti inflammatories.. hot water bottle and rest until it clears.. I have been suffering from costachondrisis since 2015 on and off.. I don't know how it started? Possibly physical exertion as I am normally very active.. the condition has changed my life as I never know when it might reoccur..

I hope you make a speedy recovery..

I find using an infrared lamp on the painful area very helpful, it seems to alleviate the ain enough for me to get some sleep. The one I use cost under £19 for a small 100w lamp, so is nothing fancy, though be careful to protect your eyes if you get one.

Sitting up is easier when you are resting and sleeping, so good back support to take the strain off the chest. Keep your pain medication up too, as this helps you keep on the move. Nothing really takes the pain away, its just a matter of waiting for the condition to get better which can sometimes take a month, Keep breathing though and take regular deep breaths rather thah shallow ones even though it hurts! Good luck.
