Hip Replacement

Good morning, all. I am supposed to have a total hip replacement on September 7th at 11:30 am. That day I must have had many exams done way before my surgery. Some tests must be done three weeks before the surgery, and other exams must be done 6 months before surgery. The test that MUST be done 6 months prior to surgery mI am not really going to worry about because with now it's just too late to have those taken care of at this point. I have already had a total knee replacement in February of this year and I have been told by a physical therapist that a hip replacement is NOT as painful or as serious as a knee replacement. I will find out on Sept 7th just how serious that surgery will be for me! Wish me luck al;l and if you believe in prayer, please pray for me as well!! Thank you all who do end up praying for me and God bless you always!!

I've had a full hip replacement and to be honest the worse part was getting up and trying to walk the next day. It felt as though my leg wasn't attached and each time I tried to take a step the hip wobbled and felt really weird lol. Just a bit of advice to make your life easier when you get home is that when you want to get on your bed it's easier to sit on the end with someone lifting your leg while you pull yourself to the head end. I've had a couple of friends phone me in the past to say they can't get there partner into bed so this will make things a bit easier. I've been told it's not as painful as a knee so I know you'll be fine. X

I have a friend who had a hip replacement and two weeks later she was mowing her little patch of grass out the back with her electric lawnmower. I suspect one of the tests will be for MRSA. They can't do that one too far ahead or you will have to have it done again closer to the time. Good luck, I am sure you will be fine.

Hi Greater52

I too have had a knee replacement and both hips.

I can assure that the knee is far,far worse than the hip.

6 weeks after my first hip I was in Budapest without my crutch and have a never had a problem. My brother who is 74 has his done and was amazed that his pain just disappeared. He hasn't look so well in years!

So go ahead with it for us it worked and I'm sure it will for you!

Can I ask what tests?

Sue

Almost every single test or exam one can think of before having surgery. I will need a completer history and physical, chest x-ray and EKG, BMP, CBC, PT/INR (whatever that test may be, I sure don' know). Urinalysis, and because I'm a diabetic, the HGAic blood test (fasting). Potassium, and liver enzymes, Plus the test you mentioned , the MSR test! I will also be seeing my Primary Care Physician a month before the surgery so she will have time to do every thing required of her. Sometime she is very slow at filling out paperwork and making sure al;l blood test are completed before hand! Thanks for all the good input and God bless you all for helping me to just relax about the hip surgery! Gayler52
