new here with breakthrough pain

Hi, new here, I have had RDS for over 9 years and normally have great pain control using Morphine and Gabepentin plus a few others, 2 weeks ago I had an injection into my left hip for bursitis a couple of days later my pain has gone through the roof, my lt leg is on fire, I have Oramorph to use when I get breakthrough pain, this helped a tiny bit, saw my Gp who has now prescribed Pregabaline instead of Gabepentin, I started on a low dose and he told me to try different doses to see if I could get my pain under control, I am now on 2 tabs twice a day, having to stay in bed, the pain is really bad, I have an appointment in 4 weeks for the Pain clinic, anyone got any ideas how I can cope with this until then, I am a very positive person and never get down, but this time not being able to do anything is destroying me, thanks

Hi and welcome to our nuthouse, you like your in your own private hell, there's a lot of good people on this forum that just might be able to help you, which part of the world do you live? If you don't mind me asking, I'm in northwest of England. I assume you've spoken to your doctor and did he give you a reason for the change because you can't stay in as much pain as your in?. Pm me if you want to sometime.

HI. I am in Cambridgeshire, yes have spoken to my Doctor and we think it was the hip injection I had 2 weeks ago, thats why he has changed my medication from Gabepentine to pregabalin, He has given me 56 tabs and I am trying to find the right dosage that will sort out the pain, I am also going to pain clinic in 5 weeks, I have been very stable for a long time with great pain control, I have been taking Oramorph when it gets that I cannot stand it and staying in bed. you are right it is hell where I am at, I just keep hoping it will pass. It is hard for my family they do not know what to do and they are feeling frustrated, so I end up smiling and saying its not to bad, the things we do!! thank you for replying, it does help to know there are others out there that understand and do not judge

Hi there muppet60 - I have whole-body CRPS and I am prescribed Tramadol, Pregabalin and Duloxetine, all for the pain. I keep on asking my GP for something for breakthrough pain, but he just will not listen - likewise the pain clinic. To tell the truth, I'm starting to get pretty annoyed about it and am thinking of changing GP Surgery. Anyway, sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I wanted to introduce myself to you because I DO UNDERSTAND the horrendous pain that goes with your condition. PM me if you ever wish to. Best wishes, Wendy
