I feel for you I do there are so many of us suffering chronic pain, of course we don't want to keep taking painkillers all out lives. It's just finding the right balance that will help you through the days. Taking one day at a time. When I say balance finding the right meds that are necessary to help your pain. Also, help you function more and the days more bearable.

I've been through so many routes consultants meds etc. Searching the Internet for help. Not always going by the negative attitude to some meds & treatments because what suits one does not suit another. After being in such a dark place and well and truly like yourself in pain worrying about the meds you take & how can I carry on?

Well I hope I've found a place that's suits me. After so many meds that don't suit me bad side effects etc. I'm now on the Butrans patch with Ibuprofen & Cocodamol for breakthrough pain. Whereas I seem to be forever taking Cocodamol all the time & Watching the clock waiting for the next dose. This has become very few & far between and of course days without the use of them. Learning to pace myself is another thing. And yes I'm still going to have the good and the bad days. More good now because they were all bad!

Nobody should be left in that amount of pain. Have you tried a tens machine I have a wireless one it was a bit of a lifesaver the beginning of this year. Another thing that is excellent for spine & sciatic problems is an electric heat mat which I wouldn't be without.

Hope you do find relief for your pain.

Take care x

Hi can I be nosey and ask what op you had? I am currently waiting for an input pain management course at st Thomas's with the hopes of a spinal cord stimulator, I too hate taking Meds. can't take enough to dull the pain without feeling like a zombie, so tend to do the pain thing during the day but find although it knocks me off my feet anatryptalin does help me sleep at night well some of it anyway. Heat pads definitely help not sure if it's physiological or comfort but wouldn't be with out one though I migh upgrade my microwave wheat one to an electric one someone on here was recommending. Hope you find the support your looking for, Cat

Too many back surgeries fail and end up causing more pain and new pain and issues. Back surgery should not be so welcomed and lower for those in pain. Every thing else should be tried first. I had back surgery and now I am far worse off. I everyday suffer and my life will never be the same. Sorry but taking meds is something you have to do. There is no magic cure to back pain. Surgery sometimes works but fails quite often. Try physical therapy and Aquatherapy. Accupuncture may help too. Good luck
