I am just wondering if some one could help me I have recently had a bone graft done on my left leg to help a break heal on the same leg, and the graft was done in my shin but I am suffering with really bad pain in my knee and is just wanting to know if it is normal for this to happen
pain in my knee after bone graft: I am just... - Pain Concern
pain in my knee after bone graft
Pain at the site of the graft is not abnormal, in fact would be usual, for a few days after the operation. Pain in the knee is a different matter. Is it swollen? Does it feel hot? It could simply be a transferred pain or a knock on effect of you favouring your injury causing a temporary problem or even a reaction to 'abuse' it feels it suffered on the operating table. If you are at all concerned you should see your GP to eliminate any more serious reasons.
it is swollen and is a bit hot and its been nearly 3 weeks since my operation so should I go see my GP?
If you have any concern whatsoever then I would say so. The heat and swelling you describe may well be nothing at all to worry about or they could indicate an inflammation. There is no reason to assume that a totally disassociated problem might not just happen to arrive in the same timescale, judging the issue from a distance is difficult. You really need someone who can 'touch and feel' for an informed opinion.
In the meantime cool packs might help relieve any inflammation whilst you wait for an appointment. If you do a google search for 'home made cool packs' there are lots of suggestions. Alternatively you could just wrap a bag of frozen peas in a tea towel and use that. NEVER use anything deep frozen in direct contact with the skin, it can lead to tissue damage if care is not taken.
Hi there...was the bone harvested from your knee???? I had two harvests from my hip for spinal grafts and they fail to warn you that the harvest site is incredibly painful.....my hip never recovered from the second harvest and took 15 months of incredible pain before it began to grow again......there are a lot of treatments that can help.....whether it's a Neuroma or graft harvest site.....ie Epilum (high dose) ....Amytriptalene....injections of Demarol I had all of these & more 😷 Perhaps you could elaborate....but if nothing was done to your knee you may need to face the possibility you have a Neuroma (mysterious lil critters the body develops on nerves due to surgery trauma) mine stopped firing so much when I became less hormonal (30 yrs later) hope to hear more if this is not relevant to your situation ....Hugs 😄
