Well I finally called the DWP, now I have the claim form.

Does anyone have any advice on how to complete this for someone who suffers long health problems from chronic pain? It is really long thing to fill in, on top chronic pain I am also really dyslexic so this is going to be fun...

Firstly is there anyone who can help you?

Second if you have medical evidence to back up any conditions from consultants etc

Third watch the time scale - they don't give you long.

Take copies of what you have filled in. And make sure you get proof of posting. Recorded or special delivery would I feel be better but entirely up to you. Agree with everything Pat has said.

There are websites that guide you. Try this one

pip-assessment.support

This one gives you trial questions and advises how to improve answering them

Nope a lot of friends are dyslexic too, do you think it matters if it isn't spelt correctly etc? It should be an online form, then I can could spell check it. They don't make it easy do they?

I do have some from my GP, Physical Therapist, old treatment notes & one thing from my consultant.

I saw that, how come it takes so long for them to even look at it?

A lot of people don't have access to computers or have a sight/learning disability which means they can't do on line form filling.

In fact they can't fill in the forms full stop.

You will need as much medical evidence, up to date, as you can lay your hands on.. This will confirm you have what you say you have. This is evidence.

As I said before watch the dates. You don't have long to gather this material

Hi Shakou

I don't think the DWP will mind if your spelling isn't great; I'm pretty sure they'll get the idea.

Could you bullet point it on a computer, spell check it and copy it onto the form? Bit time consuming I know but if you'd feel more confident that you're getting the main facts across, it might be worth the extra time? Like others have said, don't let yourself get to close to the deadline with it though; late form returns are shredded I expect!

Just one point; from my experience, the DWP ain't too hot on checking their own spelling & grammar anyways!!!

go to CAB they will fill it in, using the wording that the DWP are looking for to give the points you need

Hi,

You need to go to the benefitsandwork.co.uk it's a website which shows you how to fill in the benefit forms and what they are looking for.

It also tells you when you go for an assessment how they watch for certain things etc it's a very good website that anyone on benefits needs to see.  They do ask for a membership subscription but it's the best £20 you will ever spend.

Good luck.

I have to agree with Georgie63. Works and pension site absolutely invaluable and sort the enrolment fee to gain access to everything. Good luck. I have just had my notification that I have to apply for PIP as my, long term, DLA is to end.

Make an appointment to see an advisor at a local agency which specialise in benefits. There are legal meanings to things the meanings of which are not in the Oxford English Dictionary.  You have to think legal. Hence the need for an agency which specialises in the benefits.

Hi all thanks for the info, I'm going to try my local CAB I think that is first call I'll make when I get up tomorrow. Are there any specialist disability agencies in London/South East that anyone knows off that could help? It is written form so I have to write it, good luck to them reading my writing I don't think have use written forms, now that we have the internet is good enough.
