I am currently on warfarin and will continue to be so forever. I have spinal stenois and spondylolisthesis L4 and L5. The pain on sitting for very long has me moving from cheek to cheek can be very dibelating. Being on warfarin has limited what I can take for the pain. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

Yeah, well I'm on Warfarin too. When I was originally put on it 6 years ago I was told I could ONLY take Co-Codomol. There are several strengths but I find the only one that touches my pain is Co-Codomol 30/500, which can only be obtained on prescription. It is hard for me to understand your pain but I've suffered from osteoarthritis in right knee for a while now and it has dealt with it Ok. Then I had to have a partial right knee replacement last November and the pain from that during rehab following surgery was unreal. So long as I took the maximum dose per day it controlled the pain from that.

I don't honestly believe you have too many options actually. All the anti inflammatories are forbidden. Suggest you go online and 'Google' Warfarin and pain relief or something and see what comes up.

Hi there, we are all familiar with chronic pain on this site and most of us have had to learn to manage it by pacing and listening to your body. Try not to sit, stand or walk too long and don't allow the pain to get too bad. Try and change position regularly to keep your back from locking up. Try heat/cold packs and tens machine if it helps. Do regular stretching excercises as tolerated. See if you can get onto a pain management programme by asking your docter or consultant. Most importantly you need to think what you can do rather than what you can't do and think positive as you don't want depression on top of this as well. Nothing will get rid of the pain but hopefully you will learn to manage it. You will have your good days and bad days like most of us on this site but fingers crossed that most days will be tolerable. My biggest struggle right now is lack of sleep due to the pain at night so i try and have a nap in the day if i can. I would love to watch a film with my family in the evenings and feel relaxed but in my case it's not possible as im up and down like a flipping yo yo lol.

Adding to what others have said I'd suggest you ask either your doctor or pharmacist what pain relief is safe to take with warfarin. Pharmacists are usually a great help on things like that if you don't want to bother a doctor.

Glad to hear you are having Vit b12 & Vit d as this kind of pain is often misdiagnosed as the myelin sheath is being stripped off causing nerve pain & damage. .Are you receiving injections? My mother was given Lyrica which made the world of difference to her neuropathic pain. Not sure if you can give with warfarin.

princess05,

I use to have trouble sitting for long and had to move cheek to cheek, my Doctor said I had tailbone pain (coccyx pain) because I moved from cheek to cheek to relieve it.

My Doctor said I would have to learn to live with it, but I found that 5000iu of vitamin D3 actually cured it, it comes back if I forget to take my vitamin D3.

I was also found to be vitamin D deficient. vitamin D3 is anti inflamatory.

Wondering if this might tie in with your complaint.

Also low or deficient vitamin B12 can have damaging effects on the spinal area if left untreated.

Have you tried any herbal supplements? Some may help like Turmeric, Fish oil, ect... You can look these things up on the internet to help decide if this is the way to go. Also PLEASE ask your Dr!

Good luck! I'll keep you in my prayers!

Have you considered asking to see a pain specialist or pain clinic? They have a wide range of things they can use to help you with pain, and also understand pain meds a lot better than most GPs.
