My mum has had compression fractures but I'm not sure about exercise. Can you ask to see a physio? They would be the ones who would tell you what is safe to do.

Thanks, I'm hoping to get a referral soon as I can.

Hi, I've had a T12 fracture and I believe most heal after 8 weeks. Rest, take it easy and don't put any strain on your back.

Thanks, can you remember how soon it was until you were able to walk for any reasonable length of time?

I have 3 vertebral fractures. All next to each other and T something or other (can't remember, should have asked physio to write them down for me). It happened just before Christmas. I also have what I think is sciatica in my right lower back all the way down to my knee and sometimes to my foot. Sitting is painful, as is standing and walking. The exercise that eases it for me is 'The Cat' or humping and hollowing. But if it hurts, stop doing it. If you visit the National Osteoporosis Society website: nos.org.uk they have leaflets and booklets full of advice. One is all about exercise.

I would concentrate on gentle movement rather than exercise at this stage. Stopping yourself from locking up and gentle movement. During this time ask for a referral to an outpatients clinic via your GP. Your hospital should really have done this for you. Slow and steady is the order of the day, I rushed it and caused extra problems. This is for life so listen to the physios they know what they are doing!

Hope your hopping about like a mad March hare, soon, just not yet! Lol

I had a compression fracture (pretty severe but stable) in an accident 5 years ago. I haven't worked since. It was my L1 and I was in a brace for 4 months and then weaned off it for another 2. I have pretty bad chronic back pain. I couldnt stand or sit for more than 10mins-30mins the first year. Walking was, and for most people with bad backs the best form of exercise or even hydropool for gentle movements. I hope you feel better soon. Most people recover well after a fractured back. I was told 4-6 month recovery but I'm unlucky apparently 😡
