Any of you has had a pregnancy with gabapentin on board? If so how did you go?

Does anyone know who you advise from in terms of gabapentin during pregnancy apart from doctors and pain specialist. is there anyone else to ask with more experience.

As your pharmastist. I was on Gabapenton for over 4 years for pain but theres no way in hell i would take it while pregnant. Forgetfulness, dizziness, etc etc.

Good luck with the baby

Hi, I don't have any experience and can't advise; you need to speak to your GP and consultant.

However this is on the public site of UKTIS (the teratology information service):

Best wishes

As with any kind of medication there are always potential problems that could occur to harm your baby, however, you must weigh up Whether the risks to yourself if you don't take the medication are safe. I had to take amitriptyline during pregnancy to treat neuropathic pain which thankfully helped and my baby seemed fine other than being irritable n having colic (which can happen with many babies). Take the advice of your consultant n get support from your obstetrician also. Hope you have a safe pregnancy n healthy baby real soon x

I was on gabapentin for neuropathic pain pre pregnancy and opted to cease taking it prior to getting pregnant as I read various studies and didn't feel I could cope with how I'd feel if I risked it. Pregnancy was horrific and the pain was awful. I was on NSAIDs too, which I also stopped. However, I've found the post pregnancy, breastfeeding balance magical and my pain is reduced to no need for medication on a regular basis and I'm now pregnant with number 2 and having a much easier time of it. It may be survivable to do pregnancy without, but I'm not sure I'd do it again if I were in a similar situation. Not sure how much help that is, sorry.

I was on gabapentin but tapered off as soon as I found out. I remained on NSAIDs and took distalgesic, which shows how old my children are!

I was not on huge doses though. I was blessed with diastasis symphysis pubis during pregnancy and had a separation you could physically fit you finger into post birth. So as soon as baby appeared I was on morphine and then tramadol before dropping back down to codeine/paracetamol mix.

No chance of epidural for me due to previous spinal surgeries, so birthing was gas and air. Couldn't have been too hellish as I have 3 children. Mind you, time dulls the memory of pain 😱😄

Good luck with your pregnancy. Do not just stop taking your meds! Could cause very nasty side effects.
