has anyone with metal allergies had a metal joint replacement?
was there any reaction?
my friend's consultant isn't keen on doing the op.

Has your friend had the blood test MELISA for titanium allergy? This allergic response is as rare as hen's teeth and symptoms are confusing but tend towards chronic fatigue syndrome. I'm sure the Consultant is reluctant. What a dilemma. I'm so sorry.
Agree with Calceolaria, if your friend has had a reaction on a specific allergy test then it really is best not to do the op. If your friend has not been tested yet then that's something that could be done.
My daughter has had a jaw joint replaced, she had the allergy tests done and it showed she was allergic to the metal that was being used, unfortunately the results weren't passed on to her surgeon and the replacement op took place, she has had horrendous problems since the op, the allergy tests were re done and she has now had the joint replaced for a second time and has never looked back. I would seriously not go ahead with any metal joint replacement if there is even 1% that you may be allergic to the metal being used, you could ask your surgeon if you could have the joint made out of a different metal.
Good luck and hope all goes well for you
