I went and saw my pain mamanagement doctor yesterday and he changed my muscle relaxer to baclofen. Has anyone used this and what do you think about it. I was on robaxin before and was growing immune to it.

Morning legal81

You don't say what dose you are on?

Yes excellent as muscle relaxant and pain relief. David has been on them for many years and now takes 10mg twice a day. This is a fairly low dose as maintenance. it can be prescribed higher as 40mg or 80mg daily.

Sounds like you have a good pain management doctor

Hi there, yes I agree with Pat about having a good PM doc as they don't seem to offer Baclofen easily. I took it for about 2 years. Worked very well. No side effects for me and stopped the spasms. Better than Valium for the spasms and no dead head. 😃

I have cerebral palsy which is what baclofen is licensed for. I've been on it since my teens and I'm 24. I take 50 mg a day split into separate doses. I would say that it does have an affect. It wasn't until I came off of it that I realised how much it did. I am also on clanazapam at night. I am under a neurologist who is there to help me with my on going symptoms. I do attend the pain clinic as well but the neurologist knows more about this specialist group of drugs. you can be prescribed a over 80 mg but on a consultant's say so. maximum dose - 120 mg. This is split into 3 separate doses over 24 hours .

I take 20mg 4 times a day and have had no bad side effects been on it for 2 years now so think any that were going to happen should have done by now.

Very effective on my spasms hope you get on well with it :)

I take it and like it better than the tzidine I was on. But I don't understand the dosing instructions they gave me so am going back today. Seems to work on some CNS process

Yes, I used them for quite a while. You usually start at quite a low dose and slowly build it up. Don't be tempted to increase the dose too quickly, as the effects can sneak up on you and you can find yourself a bit legless if the dose is too high. I always found it best to take slightly on the less than more side, and I don't think I increased any more often than every couple of weeks. It is used more for neurological conditions, so if your muscle stiffness is caused by something non-neurological it may not work as well. It is also a med you need to take regularly, rather than as required. Because I now only need a muscle relaxer very occasionally, I have found that diazepam is better for me, but baclofen was definitely very useful there for a couple of years.

Hi I have lower body Cerebral Palsy and have to use Baclofen in tablet form to help with muscle spasms. I find it really works for me. Good luck and hope it gives you some relief.
